Why are deaf people separated from non-deaf people playing football? I don't see the big disadvantage. Playing away from home in a hostile atmosphere it's probably an advantage to be deaf. You might miss a few calls for the ball and stuff but our non-deaf defenders do that all the time anyway.

There was a lad playing for Waterford a few years ago,
    Joe Watson, who is deaf.

I think he used to rely on signals from the other players.
There was an RTE thing about him years ago, might have
been on the old Soccer Shop.

The only Rossie keepers I can think of off hand who were with Athlone are:
Shane Curran (Bridgets), Colin Nicholson and David Moran (both Clann na Geal)

None are deaf, although Curran is quite mad!

Yep, just confirmed with the Clan captain that Davy is in Oz.
    Dunno who the keeper is.

The only player that I know of that regulary played for the Irish deaf team from Longford was Derek Jordan. He played midfield / striker. He played in the euro championship in Denmark and scored a few goals for Ireland as I recall. Played with him with the youth and reserve team at Longford and he was a class act.

You guys, I can't believe they exploit deaf people like this. I mean, making them compete against each other just for our amusement.

Played youth football in Dublin with another Deaf guy and he was approached about a trail with one of the big London clubs, but when they found out he was deaf they revoked the trail saying that they would not be able to get him insured if they wanted to sign him due to his "disability". This was in 1990 btw. Things may have changed since, I dont know though.

We may have had some deaf people playing, I recall, Mick McCarthy shouting "Get back Jason, get back!! We're 2:0 up. Are you f*cking deaf!!", at one match
