He was commenting on a recent crowd in the Showgrounds which numbered around 500. First Division teams on a poor night should be able to attract that many punters ! Sligo is a soccer town they have been in the League for several decades.
Apart from one season Sligo Rovers have been in the League since before '' The Emergency'' if I am not mistaken!
Therefore it is highly unlikely than any Sligwegian( if that is not the correct term what the fcuk is?) is unaware of their existence. Therefore a crowd of 500 for Rovers in a Premier Division fixture would be highly disappointing to say the least, and might be even disillusioning to the recently appointed manager Paul Cook. I am sure Rovers have gone to the community so it was a bit in for a dig for Pat to suggest they haven't. Could be that us Irish are just a bunch of apathetic event junkies... and attracting them to any League games be it Eircom League of Ireland, GAA National League or All-Ireland League Rugby ...., is a lot like peeing into the wind !

Lowest crowd of the season was against Waterford. About 750, a poor crowd all the same. Rovers pulled out of the league in 1940 due to the war. After acouple of attempts to be readdmitted to the league, they were duly elected again in 1948. Also as you have mentioned, they finished last one season in the sixties and failed to be re-elected. After one season out they were addmitted again. Not sure of the dates in question? At a guess, out in 1962 and back in 1964.
Sligwegian, brilliant.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.
I have 500 down as the crowd for the Waterford game.
at tuesday's meeting the board said lowest crowd was 900 at the UCD game. derry & bohs were our biggest crowds at bout 1400
"Even if the sun ceases to rise, Even if the sea ceases to flow, Even if the wind stops to blow, The name of Sligo Rovers will shine and shine forever like the morning, glinting star in the sky."
Most evidence is completely to the contrary.
But in any event, the 500 didn't cmoe from me; it would have come from the Sligo and Waterford fans.
I have 1300 for the UCD game - which isn't far off as I was at that one - which means the 900 mentioned is nonsense. There was an unholy row when I dared to take 1400 for the Bohs game, with all parties eventually agreeing on 1800.
LOL
You obviously do care...

I have to agree with Pat Dolan. eircom Premier League football is the only sport, that Sligwegians can watch locally, which is of a significant standard. If Sligwegians aren't being encouraged through the turnstiles, then someone isn't doing their job properly.
Have Boot Disk, will travel
Is the Sligwegian GAA team any use? What kind of crowds do they get?
