Longford hit with Cassin action – report

    June 6, 2007

Crisis club Longford Town have received a further setback with news that former goalkeeper Gary Cassin is taking legal action against the Flancare Park outfit.

Longford are 10 points adrift at the bottom of the Premier Division table, staring relegation in the face following a points deduction for failure to comply with licensing procedures.

Strapped for cash and with question-marks hanging over the future of manager Alan Mathews, the club is enduring the worst season in its history.

And it could get worse, with the Irish Sun reporting on Wednesday that Cassin, who joined Longford in 2002, is taking a legal action against the club.

The 22-year-old said: “The club had no problem sending me for scans [on a Gilmore groin injury] ... but when they were told in the region of €3000 was needed for a surgeon things changed.

“The club have been negligent and this will not be sorted until I am compensated for loss of earnings and the operation is paid for.

“The way this whole thing has been handled by the club is a joke.”

Loss of earnings? IS he refering to loss of earnings in his job outside football, caused by the injury? If not he was paid for sitting on his @rse in the stand or on the bench for years, maybe the club should be trying to claim the money back from him.

AFAIK he's perfectly entitled to compensation. We all have players sitting in the stand cos they can't get on the team or bench, it's a fact of life. They all get paid and they are all supposed to be looked after by the club insurance. It appears to be another slip up by the LTFC.
