    FAI invest in Rovers' ground...

    From eleven-a-side:

The most welcome addition to the Shamrock Rovers squad this season could be a few bricklayers as the club are finally set to recommence building at their Tallaght based stadium.

The partially built stadium had been lying idle as serious cash flow problems meant that Rovers could not raise the funds to finish the job. The club tried to raise funds through a supporters fund and then a ground share with the Dublin GAA but both came to nothing.

Just as it looked like Shamrock Rovers were to remain homeless, a fairy godmother has appeared on the vista in the form of the FAI and a generous local publican.

The club need €4m to complete the first phase of the scheme which will allow them to play in the stadium. The unnamed publican will invest €300,000 per annum for the next four years to help the club raise a mortgage of €3.5m while the FAI will stump up the remaining €500,000, for which they will be granted limited ground rights.

So it is full steam ahead for the Rovers who will eventually have the most impressive stadium in Irish club soccer.

    Post This is ....

great news. It is a great project .... something every eL club should look at doing. The series of events sohuld now just be advertisments for good planning and fair play to Rover for stickin' through it all.

I didn't like the "in bed with" the GAA. Delighted it didn't take off.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

It'll be a great advert for the league to have a quality modern looking ground.

Although if the FAI do this for Rovers then other clubs should get similar financial help for building/improving their grounds.

Maybe not 500k but every club should be given financial help if they're trying to improve their ground. It'll be better for the league in the long run.

If clubs come up with development projects then the FAI usually put money into them as long as clubs can part finance themselves.

Its important the Rovers stadium gets up 'n running as the continued delays are bad publicity for eL football.
