Aye yi yi caramba.
Go back through my posts. I never mentioned the North. The partition of the island was not really of central importance to the Treaty debate, so I would never blame the Free State for the boundary. They did RATHER mess up on the old Boundary Commission though.
As for Garret Fitzgerald, he didn't so much do anything as take whatever bone Margaret Thatcher flung in his direction before crawling back to the corner with his tail between his legs. Hume deserves credit alright, but it was all plodding nowhere until a certain leader by the name of Albert Reynolds strode into town. And by some miracle the work he did was so monumental, that it suvived the uter uselessness of John Bruton's government thereafter...ye made college debates so refreshing
