Well I got nothing for Basel 03 from the FAI. On the exact day I found out that I was getting no tickets I rang up Abbey travel and myself and 2 mates booked a trip with them and we along with everyone else on our bus we got tickets in the lower tier of the irish section.

I also travelled to the last Basel game with another travel agent and we were sitting in the irish end again.

2 guys I work with went to Germany away last year with 747 (I think) and were sitting in the irish section. I got no tickets from the FAI for that game. The same guys went to France with 747 and were sitting right in the middle of the irish section.

Once the ground is finalised for slovakia the travel agents will have offers left, right and centre for packages including tickets for the away end.

Dont get me wrong, I have always found the FAI very pleasant to deal with regarding ticketing but I dont buy this line that Ray Treacy is the only agent who gets tickets for one second. Proof to the contrary is there for all to see.

I would tend to agree......"certain people" who move in the correct circles always seem to get the "extras" ( I hasten to state not just close to the FAI )........look at the "missing" 6,000 tickets that were originally allocated to Liverpool fans for Athens!....sad to say but it's the way things are nowadays!

that said, i think the fai are doing a good job with tickets. also, i don't think being in the home end would be much of a problem in prague. bratislava might be worse though. was cyrmu out in prague for the wales game?
Don't know about Prague SD. I got tickets for the Landsdowne match through a Czech collegue in Prague and he was warning me off saying they had quite a few hardcases in their support (didn't stop us though). There were a few guys throwing shapes at us during the match but there were a couple of stewards standing next to us for most of the match so there were no problems,. That said the majority of the crowd were fine with us been there and we had a bit of crack with them.

Not going to Prague but I am going to Bratislava and will take home tickets if that's the only option.

747s tickets were in the Swiss end in Basle 03. Abbey Travel did not get them direct from the FAI in 03. My recollection is that by the time people found out in 03 re tickets all the trips with guaranteed tickets were sold and I know some people went with 747 unsure of getting tickets. Are you mixing up Basle 03 and 04? If not I can only assume that abbey travel got them from an official or sponsor or maybe a combination of the 2.

I should have pointed out of course that travel agents have no problems getting tickets for the away end when there is not sufficient demand from block bookers eg San Marino and Cyprus.

BTW I don't work for the FAI. I've no connection with the ticket office although I do find them very helpful an defficient. FWIW I agree we should have a system like England or Scotland where priority is given to fans who travel away regularly.

No it was definitely Basel 03 for Abbey. It was the Saturday fixture at the end of the campaign when tickets were like gold dust. Basel 04 was a wed night game. As you suggested, I do suspect that sponsors etc do provide tickets to these travel agents.

Also, I totally agree with you regarding the FAI ticket office. I have always found them a pleasure to deal with.

A loyalty system would be fantastic. It is very frustrating attending the "smaller" away fixtures only too loose out on tickets when it comes to the bigger teams.

Got a 2 emails last week saying due to the allocation and the size of the stadiums that I will not be receiving tickets for both games. Saying that the Czech game against Germany was not even a sell out there was 18,000 odd in the stadium that leaves 2,000 free and Germany is a neighbouring country. I reckon the locals will sell very easily and the same in Slovakia. Unfortunitly I can't make the p*ss up (sorry game)

I cant make it to either the Slovakia or Czech Rep games but am going to apply for tickets anyway. I am a block booker so hopefully should have a chance of getting two for each game.I will offer tickets here at face value of course. Hopefully anyone else who is not travelling will also apply and offer tickets here to genuine supporters.

No, because at least here, real fans will get their hands on them and not one-off holiday trippers

Surely most people on blockbooking list would be real fans. The more applications in from people who arent even thinking of going are stopping fans who actually want to go.

Probably, but i'd say some block bookers sell them on at a profit. As you can see from foot.ie there are a hell of a lot of genuine supporters who are not block bookers and as i said in my earlier post at least my tickets are guaranteed to go to genuine fans.

The genuine supporters will be those making their way to Denmark. There are several on this forum who are no better than 'day trippers' picking and chosing the games they want to go to and then whinge when they cannot get tickets for their selected games. The FAI are savvy enough to know who goes regualrly and who doesnt and when tickets are scarce the regulars will always 'be successful in the ballot'.

Any Block Bookers who sell on at a profit tickets they are allocated by the FAI should be banned for life from ever getting another ticket from the FAI.

I can't make Denmark. I just cannot justify it financially it to the missus.

Sept sees us going to 2 Irish rugby games in France (Bordeaux, Paris), Slovakia as well tickets permitting. I'd have tried the Czech game but Ireland play in the World Cup the day after and not even I'm that stupid to try and get that one past her!!!!! I then have to fly back home for the Croke Park games (October) and then the month after I want to go to Cardiff. So as cool as Denmark sounds I won't be making that voyage!

Just for the record, I know a guy who worked for Abbey Travel and one of his jobs was sourcing tickets. Abbey Travel have never received an allocation from the FAI. There's a reason why they charge so much for those trips lads...

For me the real genuine fans are the diehards who go to every game. I don't know what others consider to be a genuine fan, but if someone prefers going to rugby or GAA games in precedence over Ireland games, then they are hardly a genuine fan in the real sense, more akin to being an event junkie than a genuine fan and not much better than the 'day tripper'. That's only my opinion though.

Don't forget there are many Genuine Fans that would love to go to every game....but for financial reasons, work or family commitments, can only save up for, or pick and choose certain games to attend.

This does not make them any less genuine, nor qualify them as "Day Trippers"!

I heard somewhere that Prague was not going to be the venue for the Czech V Ireland game , but Teplice which holds 1,500 fewer people.

Likewise Bratislava was also off the radar for the Irish game at one point if I am not mistaken . Can anyone confirm the venues?
