I must point out that being born in a country does NOT have any bearing on your nationality, unless you choose it to.

Don't be stupid. There's no point in being childish about this, although it doesn't surprise me.

    1 Shay Given
    5 Richard Dunne
    3 Steve Finnan
    4 Paul McShane
    2 John O'Shea
    6 Lee Carsley

    7 Stephen Ireland
    9 Kevin Kilbane
    8 Aiden McGeady
    10 Kevin Doyle

    Do you think you'll qualify?

Anyway the reason this topic has went like this is because some one came off with this minnows talk as if ROI are superior. Which they aren't. I replied that any time ROI have been any way successful there team was full of Englishmen. In 1994 World cup, you had a squad of 23. Their was FIFTHTEEN Englishmen. In the last World cup you played in their was 11.

So my point is, when we achieved success in the 50s & 80s we had a squad that made up 99% of Northern Ireland born players. When the Republic where successful in the 90s and 2002 You had more than your fair share of Englishmen. So if anyone are minnows, it would be the Republic.

Maybe the ROI have more than the players nationalities in common with England. The arrogant attitude seems to be shining every bit as bright to.

But then as a Linfield fan we are prone to sing, "we're just like watching Brazil"

Ask the Cork fans about our Brazilian play

On 2nd thoughts, let's not get into the molestation of football again

But steve, call me thick but if we achieved greater success, whether it be with Englishmen, Frenchmen or Cocker Spaniels, how does that make us minnows?

I was born in Wales, that does not mean I am Welsh. It is simple. Get over it.

Exactly, birthplace and identity are two separate things! I was born in Drogheda FFS, but God help anyone who calls me a Drog!

You haven't acheived greater success than Northern Ireland. We achieved the Quarter finals Twice. 1958 and in 1982 in which we topped the group and beat the hosts. We reached the 2nd round in 86.

We also hold the record for youngest ever goalscorer in the World Cup.

We also had arguebly the greatest ever player in George Best and also one of the greatest Goalkeepers.

We are the last and current holders of the Home Championships.

Compare that to your wee country?

You qualified 3 times - Same as us
You got to the quarters once - Inferior to us
You qualified to the 2nd round 3 times - the same, but we qualified to the quarters 2 of the 3 times.

Can't think of any ROI players that can be labeled the worlds best. Although you have had a few good players eg Roy Keane. But never anyone of the calibre of Best.

So who has the best record?

You are obsessed. We are a country you are not. A country has its own national anthem and its own currency (we had before the euro!).

Also you keep going on about englishmen while its obvious thats what you wanna be.

Who gives a flying fcuk about the Home Championships ffs?

    Why do you wear green?

How are a wee country compared to you? Are you a troll or just an attention seeker? You will always be minnows like Andorra and the like and all the rankings in the world wont change that. Now run along back to your own forum.

Oh an nerve has been touched here.

We always wore Green, always will. Your national team isn't as old as ours. The IFA has been about from well before the FAIs existance. You lot copied us.

We are a glorious wee country. Our own devolved government, our own laws, our own national football team.

If we are minnows the Republic must be less than minnows as we are more successful than yous. And you are a wee country but a great country. I didn't compare you to anyone, I just stated you are a wee country. We are a smaller country, but obviously with more of a winning mentality.

Remember you broke away from us, not the other way around

As I only go on this durin the week when Im at work, i'll leave this now as I could do with a good laugh on Monday when I see your next reply(if your last post is anything to go by)

Thats not technically true about reaching the Quarters in 82. You got past the Group stage and into the second phase. The second phase comprised 4 groups of 3 teams. The winners of those groups went into the semi finals. So strictly speaking there was NO quarter finals in the 82 world cup. Oh and you finished bottom of the 3 team group.

Oh and you didn't reach the second phase in 86 that i can see. You were the worst record of the third place teams and therefore didn't advance. The second phase (last 16) comprised of, Belgium, Russia, Mexico, Bulgaria, Spain, Denmark, England, Paraguay, Germany, Morocco, France, Italy, Argentina, Uraguay, Brazil, and Poland.
