    Longford deducted 6 points

Does this make a difference to our season now? It probably means we can stop looking over our shoulder now and look higher in the table as relegation looks immposible now for us.
Typical of this league for that to happen as well. Came without warning too.

Not really, don't think we were going to be involved in the relegation battle anyway. It makes a difference to Galway, Waterford and Bray, that's all.

No it didn't. Longford were threatened with a points deduction earlier this season and were already fined for the exact same reason, there were signs that it was coming.

The FAI Club licensing committee have released a statement saying that Longford Town have been deducted six points after failing to adhere to licensing requirements.

The licensing committee had extended the deadline for Longford, and several other unnamed clubs, to provide accounts information and Longford were the only team not to meet this new deadline.

The midlanders were already propping up their eircom Premier League table and today's decision mean that the six points they've earned this season have been wiped out, leaving them with zero.

The club have already been fined E6,000 on the matter and will have five business days to lodge an appeal.

Director of the eircom League Fran Gavin said: 'The club were on notice that they were facing the possibility of further sanctions.

'They were one of several clubs that were given an extension by the First Instance Licensing Committee to meet their licensing obligations and they were the only club that failed to present the necessary documentation.

'Longford can have no complaints because they were given every opportunity to get their house in order,' Gavin added.

'The purpose of club licensing is to ensure that clubs are managed and run properly and clubs should know by this stage that if they don't fulfill the criteria that they have signed up to then they face the possibility of fines, points deductions or even the withdrawal of their licence.

'I believe that football in Limerick is now in a much healthier state as a result of the licensing process, while Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers are both much better run clubs after going through a similar process.'

As i told you the last day we're only 6 points behind ye.Up until Saturday ye had 1 point out of 15......alot worse than our run.Ye beat Cork and now ye're safe as houses? That's some change in attitude from this time last week.

no chance ye'll be going down but neither is there one of us.After seen nearly every team now i don't think anyone in the mid table division is better than us by much,if any.

The 6 point deuction of Longford is definitely beneficial for Sligo...saying it doesn't affect ye as if yere Top of the League is stupid.

we've been relegation candidates since the start of the season and 1 win doesnt change that,ok so we're 13 points ahead of longford but 2nd bottom isnt too far away, especially with the hard run of games coming up

2moro is a massive match must avoid defeat

Might be wrong but do we not have a similar amount of points now as we did at the same stage last season , we are only ten points from the top.

We're not relegation candidates. We're expected to finish mid-table, that's probably mainly because the team below us aren't great either.

Ya....the same side ye drew with at home 1-1.

You make it sound as if yere miles ahead of the teams below ye.Far from it.If ye lose tomorrow and we win the gap is,as before,3 points.Practically nothing between the sides.

Rory in fairness has the goggles off..

ha ha,im better than that rogue trader.

althought your next statement is more laughable! its a big period this,if we can use cork as a base for a good run then we can look at breaking into the top 6,otherwise we're just looking at trying to be top of the bottom 6 as such. but thats very difficult to achieve i think if we lose more players and who knows, galway could find their feet, bray could gel together and where would we be then!

tomorrow could be very sobering for a lot of people....

The reason for the renewed confidence conor h is the fact that we now have a striker who doesnt stop every move and who has the ability to score goals. Add to that the return of peers. Its not just the result over cork.
