Michael Hyland resigns - 11 February 2003

Michael Hyland has resigned his post as Chairman of the eircom League after a distinguished seven years of service in the role as one of Ireland's best known football legislators. UCD representative Brendan Dillon takes over the position until the League's AGM in March.

During a lifetime dedicated to the game Michael Hyland has seen service as an administrator and legislator at many levels. A former President of the Athletic Union League, one of the major leagues of junior football in Dublin, Hyland's range of officialdom has taken him through the eircom League, the Football Association of Ireland, UEFA and FIFA.

Mr. Hyland currently holds a position on the Appeals Committee of UEFA as well as being a member of the Board of Control of the eircom League and the Board of Management of the FAI. During his time with the League he has overseen many periods of change and was the driving force behind the construction of the magnificent AUL Sports Complex at Clonshaugh near Dublin Airport.

In a tribute to his contribution to the game FAI President Milo Corcoran said, "Michael Hyland has served the game well at all levels over the years. The AUL Complex will stand as a monument to the part he has played in the development in Irish football."

"Michael has been in office during many changes in the domestic game not least the development of club grounds and the introduction of floodlights throughout the League and was also the pioneer in the revolutionary change in the playing season from winter to summer."

"A real football person with a deep interest in the game at all levels, Michael's experience and the advice he offered will be missed within the football fraternity. I would like to wish Michael a long and healthy retirement," added Corcoran.
