    Mons Notes May 15 2007

    THE COUNTY ARE COMING
On a cold wet dreary St Patrick’s Day, Monaghan United travelled to Station Road to play Kildare County and left with only a point in a disappointing and dull game. United have improved their quality of football and have a win under their belt now and will have an eye on their first home win of the season.

The Thoroughbreds have seemed to have caught the Mons “draw disease” having only gotten 3 points out of their last 3 games against Kilkenny, Dundalk & Shelbourne but are still sitting pretty in the top half of the table. United can close the gap between them to just one point if they manage to win at home.

United’s Robbie Farrell and Kildare’s Padraig Amond are currently the top goal scorers in the league with 5 goals apiece and both players will be trying to ensure that they go home on top this Friday night.

Kick off at Kingspan Century Park is 8pm and an entertaining game is sure to be on the cards.

UNDER 14’S ARE ALL IRELAND CHAMPS
Monaghan United’s Under 14’s team have added to their previously won honours by becoming the All Ireland Youth Football Competition winners. The competition is run by the Lions Club of Ireland and teams from 32 counties competed in the knockout competition. Brian Finnegan’s United team took on Cork Corinthians in the final on Sunday last in Athlone Town’s new stadium and despite the stiff opposition, United won the game 1-0. Full report next week.

Congratulations Brian & the boys and good luck at the weekend in your league cup final.

MONAGHAN CREDIT UNION MINI LEAGUES – SUMMER LEAGUE KICKS OFF
Tuesday evening saw the new Summer Leagues for Monaghan United’s mini leaguers start. Coaching and a league competition format have been introduced for the children aged between 5 and 11 playing at Monaghan United football club as part of the summer programme. Pictures and league tables will follow next week.

SUMMER CAMP FOR THE FOOTBALL MAD!
Following from previous year’s successes, Monaghan United Football Club will once more be holding their Summer Football Fun Camp at Kingspan Century Park. The Astro Parks and grass pitches will be in use during the week long football fun filled camp. Under the guidance of Monaghan United’s full time coach Thomas Heffernan, the camp will provide children aged from 5 to 15 with a week of activities to get them fit in a fun, safe, football environment.

For further details contact Thomas on 086 1081572.

"an entertaining game is sure to be on the cards."
