    ''World class team''

Anyone see the piece in one of the free papers this week(cant remember which- advertiser, galway 1st or indo) ''two world class teams for galway this summer'' in referance to the (1st one is undebatable) world class teams off south africa(rugby friendly vs connacht)and......sunderland??.....
right in england only teams that could be classed like that are the big four even the big clubs of spurs and the 'toon couldnt be placed in this bracket!!.... great journalism i have to say!!

    season ticket

i got a season ticket at christmas. it says i get entr for all home league games AND FRIENDLIES for the 2007 season. last week i got a letter from GUFC saying the sunderland ticket could be bought for the reduced price of €20!

now i know the club need every penny but i they should think long and hard before trying to squeeze every last drop of blood out of season ticket holders. i don't live in galway anymore and would probably be around during race week. i bought ticket to support the club even though i wouldn't be around much.

    it leaves a bad taste!

Bigball, I know it seems unfair but a clause in the agreement to play the game wa sthat season ticket holders from both clubs would be treated the same. So if our season ticket holders had got in free, then 1,000 of their fans would as well, so the club would have probably lost money on staging the game. I think haggling over paying 20 quid to watch a good side full of international players is a bit much.

I would put it as a championship side with at most second rate international players as remember the last time they were in the premiership 2 seasons ago and recorded the lowest points total ever , lets hope they do even worse this time

if that is the case the letter to season ticket holders should have explained that and apologised. most would understand. then hit them for €20 for a ticket.

my main point is there is alot of goodwill for the club at the moment and they shouldn't do anything to lose it.

In an ideal world we'd let everyone free in to everything. The club will not make a financial killing out of this fixture. With capacity at around 5k and the expenses involved in putting on the fixture, it is not a cash cow for the club.

Your criticism hurts if only because any club worth its salt wants to be fair to its genuine supporters.GUFC is trying to do that in the way it is managing the distribution to season ticket holders and making people who are coming up to see Sunderland / Roy Keane only pay the going rate. If the demand is anything to go by so far we could have charged €100 for the new stand.

GUFC is a business, not a charity. If you had an eye to how regularly clubs go to the wall because they have no operating cash flow, if you knew how much the financial institutions want to get EL clubs off their backs / books, if you were better informed of the costs involved in running a club than your post suggests, you might see that GUFC has nothing to be ashamed of with its pricing policy for this fixture.

Season Ticket Holders are being given a free ticket effectively with the option of buying 1 more at €40 and are also being given first call on the new stand tickets. There are a very limited number going on sale to the general public next friday night because 99% of season Ticket Holders and sponsors have taken up their full allocation plus ther new stand will be sold out mainly to the above.

We are presently sourcing 3/4 new players for July which will increase our playing budget and the very people who are being most negative about the Sunderland game are the ones who moan about the size and quality of the squad.

We could have sold over 20,000 tickets for this game at any price the great shame is that only 5,000 approx will see it.

Excellent post My Town. €40/€50 is very reasonable for a nights entertainment in fairness. Especially during race week. But you wil always have people complaining about it I suppose.

Bullcr@p in fairness..... Bohs are hosting Sunderland AND Wolves and you can get to see both of these games for the same price that Galway are charging into see Sunderland alone. Tell me the difference.

Ireland international games in Croker were going for €50.00, tickets to see champions league games were less than €50.00. IMO Galway's pricing of these tickets is just shocking.

BrayUnknowns your forgetting the fact that the capacity at the Bohemians and Cork grounds is twice that of Terryland (and the cost of having Sunderland play is the same for us all) so they can afford to drop the price of the tickets. i dare say if Bray got to play Sunderland they would be looking to get as much out of it as they could. As My Town said soccer clubs are not charities. It would be great if we were financially well off and could offer the tickets at a fiver but thats never gonna happen!
