Has anybody been watching southland? It's a 'Shield lite' cop show but I'm starting to warm to it.

what are peoples views on the Wire? Ive heard mostly good things about it in general.

just watched the 1st episode, 1st series last night and it werent half bad.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

If you liked the first one then you're off to a good start.

It's a bit of a slow burner, and for most people seems to be a case of of bearing with it for the first x episodes. It's all about building the plot and characters, can spend half a season doing this before anything happens.

    But it's a great show.

About to start the sopranos, which I've never seen, myself.

It's feckin brilliant. Half way through season 3 now, as we're watching 2 or 3 a night most nights! I want to complete it before giving a final verdict, but certainly so far it's on the verge of knocking the Soprano's off the top of my list. So many brilliant characters, and does the thing that HBO seems to do better than most of no absolute good or bad guys - sometimes you like a character, sometimes you think they're absolute c**ts.

A N Mouse - The Soprano's is brilliant too. Not as slow a start as the wire, anyway.

The Wire and The Sopranos are the two best TV shows of all time. No question at all IMO. Don’t be a fan boy and pick one to the detriment of the other. Just enjoy hour after hour of incredible storytelling, impeccable acting, nail biting drama and more comedy than in 99% of sitcoms.

The pair of them have redefined TV and surpassed cinema as the medium of innovative film makers.

Realise I sound like a blowhard but seriously, buy the DVDs and see if I’m wrong

Took me a while to get into the west wing but grew to love it, although I think it was often very cliqued, a problem arises Toby or Josh crack a joke and they solve the problem

The rate we're going, we won't be long finishing The Wire. Any recommendations for what I should acquire next? A few in work rave about Mad Men, but it seems a bit of a glorified Soap Opera from what I've seen? I revist to Oswald State Correctional Facility is on my list, but I doubt it'll be the missus' thing...

breaking bad is also pretty good, working my way through it at the moment, and im always being told to watch dexter and mad men,

if you like comedy id recomend all of these,

    the big bang theory,
    californication,
    that 70s show,
    malcolm in the middle,
    chuck,
    house,
    rules of engagement,
    scrubs (only seasons 1-8)

if your lookin for more serious
    the west wing
    band of brothers,

Try Arrested Development if you haven't already. It's that rarest of beasts: a smart, funny American comedy.

Mad Men is exceptionally good. Extremely clever use of history as a backdrop too. Dom Draper is the best antihero since Tony Soprano.

It’s the only thing I make a point of watching at the moment.

Have a love/hate thing with Breaking Bad. At times I got into it but I can’t stick with it.

(Oh and Arrested Development is my favourite sitcom of all time)
