Have only seen the first 3 or 4, but looks promising. Not become a standard procedural so far.

Think it said in credits was based on an Elmore Leonard book, would need to check to be sure.

Grand so, I'll give it a try. We've a whole season of CSI:NY to get through first!

Finished the Soprano's a couple of weeks ago, for the second time. Still brilliant tele, although I do feel it tailed off more at the end this time around. Since that finished I've been watching, and really enjoying, The Thick of It. I can really see why some people wouldn't like it (including the missus), but I think it's very good. Although it's not doing anything for my already coarse language!

community is starting soon on TV3, might have started already.
I've seen the whole series already (legally, your honour. Honest) and it's worth checking out. Starts off slow, but once the annoying English professor is removed from the cast around episode 4 it really kicks off.

Seen ads for Spartacus: Blood and Sand on 3e. Basically, it's Gladiator redone as a TV series, with the special effects team from 300. It's very, very violent. The slightest graze with a practice wooden sword draws fountains of blood. Also, lots and lots of nudity. Lots. Watch for the sheer "what the fcuk??" of it all.

Whatever idiot controls the schedule on TV3 put Friday Night Lights (the film, not the TV series) on tonight at 11:50. I'd highly recommend it, even if you don't like American Football, it's an excellent film.
More about the pressure of playing the game at a young age, with such high expectations from the community, does to the players involved than the game itself.

I'd recommend Lost if you haven't seen it, Supernatural which finished this year, Entourage which is in it's 6th Season, I own The Wire and I'm on the 2nd season. The first season was really good.

Absolutely the best thing on TV for the first four/five seasons but I was fairly disappointed with how it all ended tbh. Very poor final season.

Anyone see the new series of Sherlock Holmes? Martin Freeman was excellent as Watson, and while it took a while to get used to the actor playing Holmes, it was disappointed that they only made three episodes. The only disappointment was when Moriarty appeared on screen, he was too much like Graham Norton, rather than a master criminal.

Just to revisit this again, and I know it doesn't meet the original criteria, but just finishing season 1 of The Wire. Definitely right up there with The Sopranos, and I believe that season 1 isn't even the best one!

Also watching another past series - Our Friends In The North. Brilliant TV, and for those of us who watched it on tele first time around, 15 years on definitely makes it have more impact.

Holy ****, was it realy 15 years ago? One of the last times the BBC got "epic" right.

Just a heads up that HBO have a new programme from some very talented people (exec produced by Scorsese) called "Boardwalk Empire" coming in September. Critics who've seen the opening episodes have said it mre than lives up to its hype

Just double checked wiki, early '96, so not quite. And yes, it did make me feel old too!

Been watching a bit of it. Not to be taken too seriously but entertaining enough. Yes they seem to have splashed a lot of budget on slowmo fight scenes ...they still don't get the true horror of arterial spurt right ...but no one ever does. But heh ...Xena got her baps out last night so how bad. :-)

Forgot to say ...some of the backgrounds and CGI are woefully bad and the entire thing appears to have been made on a soundstage. There's never a puff of air.

Spartacus just gets better and better as the series progresses, the first couple of episodes are OK, too much CGI blood spatter and poor acting but once you get about midway through the series (probably the episode in the pits) it gets genuinely good. Only a couple of epsiodes left on Bravo.

I first came across Spartacus a few weeks ago.I was in A&E late on a Thursday night waiting 5 hours(grrr) to be seen about my leg.It was on the tv in the waiting area on tv3 i think,a complete bloodbath and porno rolled into one.Kids were watching it too with shocked parents (think of the children!!) and teenagers were glued to it for the blood and porn.

I've actually noticed lately an amount of the dismal channels showing daytime re-runs of stuff that was really meant for post-watershed broadcast.

No idea if it's been mentioned on here before, but BBC4 on Saturday nights has the Swedish detective series "Wallander", which is a good series.

ya shouldnt have been canceled at all, fox had the choice of this or dollhouse, and fox being fox cancelled the better show,

as you said good but not great,
