    Drogs injury crisis....A myth?

Looking at Drogs starting team the other night against our good selves i am wondering is it a myth regarding all there injurys?...most of the players that lined out were first team regalurs but i am reading everywhere from RTE/Drogs website and from there fans on various forums about there 500 injury's..messages like "if you cannot beat us with these injurys you will never beat us"....Friday night Drogs played up to six if not seven of there strongest team as played against Bohs in the opening league game of the season..so that would make them short maybe 3/4 first team regulars...City were missing Healy/Flynn/Farrelly/Sean Kelly...in my calculations that would be the same amount of first team players missing for us.....who asked for this game to be called off by the way.....

Well Drogs cant complain IMO because they have strength in depth. Thats the whole point of good teams and winning teams is to have the depth to deal with injury crises like that at Drogheda. Teams like Cork havnt got the depth that Drogheda, Derry and St. Pat's have. They have a valid reason. For me though if Drogheda fans are saying that then they are undermining the quality they have throughout their team

A myth? I think any squad would struggle with the following players out. Especially when you're struggling to even get a substitutes bench together! Not to mention a goalkeeper playing with a bleedin injury!
And you know Drogs fans had no problem with the game going ahead.

Jason Gavin ; To be assessed 4 weeks post op - in two week's time.

Dan Connor: will be out for at least 2 months.

Andrew Hageman : not available - back strain.

Damian Lynch : may be available for next week's trip to Waterford.

Fabio : may be available for next week's trip to Waterford

James Keddy: having laser therapy, could be availoable in 2 weeks.

Garto: 2-3 weeks away from full fitness.

Aidan O'Keefe : Serious ligament damage, may be out for some time.

Shane Barrett ; waiting for op.

    Brian Shelly : out

And from Friday night's starting team who would you drop to play any of the above if they were available...or should i say who would Doolin play?...lets just figure this out now before we have to listen to this rather than the game every other week...

    Your team Friday night...

    Vilmunuen
    S Byrne
    Gartland
    Gray
    Webb
    Robinson
    Keegan
    Bradley
    Cahill
    Grant
    Zayed

Looks like plenty first team regulars there to me...even on the bench you had Ristila/Whelan/C Byrne/Matondo

Drogs were able to have experienced players such as Whelan & Ristilia on the bench last friday so how bad can their injury list be?

Drogheda United - Mikko Vilmunen, Stuart Byrne, Simon Webb, Steven Gray, Graham Gartland, Paul Keegan, Shane Robinson (Gavin Whelan 85), Stephen Bradley, Eamon Zayed, Tony Grant (Sami Ristila 65), Ollie Cahill.
I think Drogs only missing maybe 4 first choice players - O'Brien, Connor, Shelley & maybe Lynch.

Garto: 2-3 weeks away from full fitness.
    "Garto" played on friday.

The FAI are allowing Drogs sign a keeper so less of the moaning about that.

When you have large experienced squad of 25-26 players you can afford a few injuries. Must clubs would see an injury when you have to play U21s in the furst eleven.

What about Gavin and Barret? 5 essential players out is quite a big loss, Its nearly half the team

Swop Gavin for Lynch. You can't play them all. If you name your first choice eleven then we would know...

City were missing Kelly, O'Flynn, Healy & Farrelly on friday yet we didn't say we have a crises.

two injured players isn't a crises, two in-eligible players who were signed without the club knowing the rules doesn't make it a crises either - an embarressment maybe......

Moaning?!! Just stating a fact ffs. We're getting on with it. It seems to be Cork fans who are making more of an issue out of this, not us! Jaysus, sure all you have to do is read the thread on our injuries on your mb. I find its the best place for a Drogs fan to find out the latest news on our team

Connor(injured)-Gavin(Injured) Gartland(just passed a fitness test) Shelley(injured) Webb-Cahill(most likely barret(injured) would be playing with Cahill's form at the moment) Keegan Byrne Robinson-Zayed O'Brien(injured)

Oh and sure when is O'flynn ever fit for more than a string of games? he hardly counts

Cahill has played more or less every game for you so that leaves 4. Gartland doesn't count as players always coming back from injury - sure O'Callaghan only played his 3rd game of the season on friday.

barret got injured in the first half of the first game of the season - which explains why cahill has not needed to compete for his place as much. with barrets end of season form from last season he would be in - so that is back up to five

Look Pete you are just knit picking. Above is a list of 9/10 players who would start or be on the bench. There is no way you can't say that that isn't an injury crisis. Your example with Cork pales in insignificants. Cork are missing 2 players who dont really have any effect on the team and JOF who is always injured. Drogheda have had to move their 1st choice CM in to RB and are missing alot of players around the park, plus the Captain and Vice captain.

No mention of Richie Baker? I think when and if we ever have a full squad to choose from Baker will play wide right with Robbo in the middle.

Your having a laugh there Al. Surely you're not suggesting he's a first choice first eleven player?

You are a hard man WW...i dont see what the problem would be with Cork City or any other clubs discussing your injury crisis(Myth)on our MB...you are one of our rivals and its been repoted all over the papers so its a topic in our eircom league forum...

On your forum Drogs fans started a thread about a Cork City supporters bus going to Linfield Monday...now where is the logic in that....

If you kept up, you'd realise we followed the rules. The player's previous clubs did not. Hence other clubs in the same situation not being affected.

Players such as Keddy, O'Keeffe & Baker would never even come off the Drogs bench in a full strength squad.

CCFC will barely be able to fill the bench (will add U21s) for tomorrows Setanta Cup game but you won't hear that mentioned in the media.

IMO Doolin is getting his excuses in advance. Fair enough if you have no fit keeper but he should have more confidence in the 14 first team fit players.
