What was so weird about it?
Jesus I've never seen such a load of shíte. Decent enough team put out by us but the lack of effort from us was basically comical. Wierdest crowd ever at a game too.

Match Summary
This game was summed up by one of the "crowd" telling one of the penalty takers to hurry up, as he dawdled towards the penalty spot.
Yes, at that stage, we had all invested more than enough personal time in this nonsense.
The first half was drivel - Bogdan played totally out of position being the only selection quibble - he was up front with Sammo and he kept getting surrounded. Clearly the Kildare defence was not going to be "Bogdanned" again.
We had a few long range efforts in the first half and their keeper was dodgy but despite that we really only huffed around their box. At the other end, KC showed very little up front although their no.3 whipped in a few decent free kicks which put us under pressure.
In fairness, we improved in the second half but only to an acceptable standard. We were by far the better side and really it is a minor miracle that we didn't score. Sammo missed a daft chance, Doyler took the wrong option and hit the keeper from 6 yards, Timmy also missed a sitter and at the other end, Bermingham had to scramble one away when their no.10 was looking to pounce.
Again, in fariness, to both sides, the pitch was terrible. It was a Saipan type pitch which certainly did not help us. KC were game and showed good attitude but with the exception of the 3, the 8 and the 10, whatever class there was, was shown by us.
Extra time was relatively uneventful and over the 120 minutes, despite the fact that we deserved it, it was pretty poor stuff. Our best player by a distance was McFaul. Kenna had his, what is now becoming standard, usual solid defensive game. As above, Bogdan muscled out of it and Sammo decent but struggled to make headway going forward.
Penalties. Quigley saved their first 2 and that, for all intents and purposes, was that.
Sammo, Purcell, Bolger and Kenna scored for us with Conan missing.
Facilities - clubhouse nice, nice bar, decent half time shop. Pitch lousy. Location - right beside train so - good.
There were 7 of us in total and probably about 100 KC fans. There was also one other UCD fan hanging tout seul.
We started with:
Quigley
Last
Tony (McMillan)
Kenna
Bermingham
Doyle
Conan
King (Bolger)
McFaul
Sammo
Bogdan (Timmy)
Not quite sure which game you where at last night. You are correct about the overall quality of the game (what do you expect when there are 15 changes made to the respective teams from their weekend fixtures). I have no idea how you could call the KC keeper dodgy, all he had to do all night was catch a few high balls from corners etc, he did that quite well, thats all there is to be said really. The pitch was very hard, and could do with a lot of watering, but it has hosted no fewer then 7 games since Friday evening, so I suppose that its holding up quite well in the circumstances. Anyway the ball rarely hit the ground so it didnt really matter.
Not so sure about the dominance of UCD throughout, I thought it was very even, a case of the blue tinted spectacles there... we certainly finished normal time on top, and where the only side pushing for a winner.
Clarify weird crowd for me? Monday night league cup against UCD isnt exactly the biggest draw of all time. Those attending where mostly the KCFC regulars who wanted to see how our U21's and reserves looked against premier opposition. Not really something to shout about, but interesting for our future, not so sure about the team in blue.
7 games since the weekend ? Is that true ? In that case, I change my view - the pitch was in remarkably good nick given the traffic that has gone through it.
In fairness, you are actually correct - the last 10 - 15 of normal time was all you guys on the attack - where I was going was that we had a few super chances to have it killed off by then but couldn't take them and the keeper made a decent save.
You have a nice set up there - first time I have been down. Some decent players and a nice facility.
How many of your 11 last night were regular starters in the first team ?
Pretty dull agonising game. UCD dominated possession in the first half without doing anything with it. As the second half went on Kildare came into it more and more little by little but they didn't do too much with it. The extra time was even if similarly uneventful. I thought Quigley came off his line for the 2nd and 3rd penalties but his two saved penalties were well shut out. All the lads who scored their penalties took them well.
A pleasant enough experience in Kildare. Probably one of the few non-Dublin set ups where I didn't meet one hostile person. They have a nice but small set up. That road is a bit dangerous leading from the train station to the ground though. It could do with a footpath.
The curly haired guy in front of us shouting meaningless encouragement to players at odd moments, the applause from Kildare fans for what looked more like rugby touch-finders than football passes.
Your keeper was dodgy btw. He completely missed a cross at the fairground end and dropped at least two in the second half.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.
You leave Pat alone, the mans a legend, nothing wrong with what he was doing, he was simply just enjoying the game.
And you own side was not guilty of the same kind of play (maybe not the applause fair enough), But again just enjoying the game and getting behind the team nothing wrong with that, you see it at every ground at every match.
Was a bit shaky at the start maybe but I thought he acquitted himself well enough as the game progressed tbh.
Everyone needs something to believe in, I believe I'll have another beer.
We were playing a second string side (mostly) and encouraged them as they tried hard to keep a clean sheet. Our lads put their all into it, and we gave them support. They were working their asses off and we appreciated that.
Keeper had a dodgy start but was reliable for the most part.

Irish Rail and the Department of Defence are involved in plans to construct a footbridge next to the rail bridge, which will make access to the ground far better.

Good to hear, a nice set up there.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.
Team with minutes of substitutions for the stattos around...
UCD : Quigley, Last, McDonnell (McMillan 90), Kenna, Bermingham, Byrne, McFaul, King (Bolger 77), Doyle, Opera (Purcell 61), Sammon. Subs not used - Gregg, Gallagher
Also no yellow cards if that Drogheda lad cares about the league cup.

Big style - your boys kept going for the 120 minutes
