Good election for SRFC ?

Assuming Enda Kenny will inevitably concede the election and FF are back in power - can the election be some comfort Shams on the Tallaght issue ? Will TD have the stomach / finances to continue to fight this if the High Court decision goes against them?

Has to be a great election for Rovers. FF have always been consistent on the fact that Tallaght should not accomodate the GAA, while FG have said it should house both. Thomas Davis must be worried now, the stalling tactic has backfired. Also they told people not to vote for Lenihen who then topped the poll so that can hardly have endeared him to them. That should be the end of the issue now.

The problem is that there's bound to be a new Cabinet, and John O'Donoghue may be moved so that, in the FF way of doing things, a county other than Kerry can get the lion's share of sports funding.

hopefully. but it was o'donoghue and not the entire FF party who was consistent so you'd only hope the policy continues with his successor if he's moved.

JOD consistently siad that he AND FF had promised Rovers the stadium and that the government wouldn't go back on their promise.

Ideally scenario for us now is an FF/Lab government as Pat Rabbitte supports us on the issue and the stadium is in his constituency.

The Green Party fully supports South Dublin County Councils commitment to continue to build a football sized stadium in Tallaght, as was originally intended. We also support Shamrock Rovers in remaining as key tenants of the stadium.

We are understand the need to provide sporting facilities for children and young people and the need to cater for all sporting interests. We feel that building a football sized stadium would not necessarily prohibit all other sports and that the new stadium could also accommodate other under age Gaelic games.

So no matter which option Bertie picks whether he chooses Labour or the Greens or goes it alone with independents Rovers will continue to have government backing on the stadium. So yes it has been a very successful election for us

My sentiments entirly.
What was the out going TD Sean Crowe's position on this exactly?
Would have expected him and his party to be firmly on the TD side of this issue.

Labour & the Greens may be more in tune with SRFC but no party would bring up Tallaght stadium in partnership negotiations for a government just like none of them would pull out on it.

Crowe and Sinn Fein were instrumental in Thomas Davis getting involved in Tallaght Stadium in the first place. Glad to see the back of Crowe.

Very interesting article indeed. Looks like TD have shot themselves in the foot and are becoming isolated within the GAA. Sweet.
