    Pacino.

I think the characters he portrays are more iconic then De Niro's.

Tony Montana, Michael Corleone and Frank Slade stand up better than Travis Bickle, a younger Vito Corleone and Michael Vronsky.

Only going on films I've seen with the two in them.

Thought i would separate with their top 5 movies & must admit was stretching with Pacino. The problem with De Niro is he hasn't done anything dramatic in last 10 years.

    Pacino:
    - The Godfather
    - Scarface
    - Donie Brasco
    - Scent of a Woman
    - Carlitos Way

    De Niro:
    - Taxi Driver
    - Deer Hunter
    - Raging Bull
    - Once Upon a Time in America
    - Goodfellas

Pete - you left out Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, Glengarry Glenross, Looking for Richard and Frankie and Johnnie; what's worse, you included a film that had Chris O'Donnell in it!

Shame! Pacino gets my vote now in a reverse protest!
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

I apologise for that. No defence. Sorry.

I'm going with De Niro, although with reservations. Whilst I think De Niro's best performances (Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, King of Comedy, Raging Bull, Deer Hunter) are better than Pacinos (Heat, Scarface, Donnie Brasco, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, Godfather) I have to say that these days I have more respect for Pacino, simply because De Niro has made something of a mockery of his legacy (the worst/best example being his self parody in the Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkel) and, wsell Pacino hasn't!
