The club are well tuned in

Now is just me or do you think that the club are well turned in to members on this board and GUFC.net this season .
First up someone said about the hassle with season ticket holders getting into Terryland at the Sligo game , then BANG they act on it just like that .
Again someone said that the club should do something for Maiko when she came over like a write up in the paper something like that , BOOM she gets the full treatment and fair play to her .
So this makes me think what's next ?
Also full marks to the club as I think it's great for them to listen to what the fans think and act on it .

The season ticket thing was said on the night the mgt commitee didt need to read it here. Its good business though that there was an acknowledgement of the problem on the website. The presentation of the Jersey should be featured in the local rags again to highlight what a good thing Galway United is and maybe get people thinking they should really go up the Dyke Rd every secod Friday.

i think in another sense the club is copping on somewhat - this is what should be expected in professionalism - it makes sense - take care of the customer - and youll get paid again

seeing as its working asking for things on here i think its time we asked for a bar in terryland
Homer: I'm gonna make sure these deliveries are made on time.
Bart: Let me come with you
    Homer: Dont you have school!
    Bart: Dont you have work!
    Homer: Ah Touche!

yea - with the demise of the local throughout the country - licences should start coming down in price - a definite earner when you look at dalyer and tolka

No harm in asking, but given the fact that there are as many juvenile fixtures as Eircom League fixtures in Terryland, I don't see this notion ever getting off the ground.

AFAIK Terryland Park is owned by the Trustees of Galway & District League. This is one (very good) reason why it is unlikely to fall into the hands of property developers.

Given the fact that sport promotes good health and (abuse of) alcohol removes good health, I can't see a bar being facilitated in Terryland.

The FAI are also happy to have the Cup sponsored by Ford now. The greater the distance between drinks companies and soccer, the better for all concerned (except the drinks companies of course...)

    I know this isn't a hugely popular view, but it's a view I support.

not that i know anything about the specifics of it - the bar could be closed for juvenille games - youd hardly know the bars were in the other grounds only that your told they are there

are you saying only property developers could build the bar??? surely if there was a proposal for a bar in the new stand for example it could be done (i know it wont be done now as its not in the plans)

totally agree that alcohol reduces health - but if people are getting wrecked/having a quiet one - gufc/terryland park should be getting in on that action - could even become a local for tirellan castlawn crestwood etc.

but it will be a long time before id see it alright

i think a long term plan is for a bar.

it will be built one the 1st floor of the clubhouse.so wont be anything big.its way into the future after the new stand and gym etc are in place.
is there a scoreboard going in aswell?ive a heard a few people saying its a pity there isnt one.
in the galway indo today they have a pic with maiko, tony, ciaran foley and colm james, fair play.

    Sorry Corbyeire

I should have stuck to the question of the bar only and not clouded it by mentioning possible purchasers!

Like yourself, I don't know the specifics. The point you make about having the bar closed during juvenile games is very reasonable and practical. However, without getting too nerdy about it, alcohol counsellors tell us that even the association of the two (soccer & booze) is often enough to make it "cool" amongst youngsters. Hope this makes (some kind of) sense

I do not agree that local residents would see the bar as a "local" given the proximity of the Menlo Park and the Marriott. But, in fairness to you, groups and clubs, might be inclined to hire it out if it had a licence - or even the odd party.

The property development point I was getting at was more in relation to what's happening in Drogheda and what happened to Shamrock Rovers in Milltown: A beautiful football ground was dug up for money. I think the trustee ownership of Terryland makes that very unlikely to happen, but if you look at the killing Salthill Devon made on Millers Lane, you can never say never.

on the association thing - think we should definitely go like france - no sponsorhip as a start - the association thing may be true - but id bet the sponsorship would be a far greater effect

The district league would be entitled to a sports and social club licence afaik so there wouldnt be a big cost in that me thinks. We are sponsored by a major developer get them to put in a tender and hey presto! While were at it Ive always thought the FA should look into the possibility of developing over the car park. Commercial offices so close to town with car parking would earn a great income and you could put in corporate boxes/ function room facing the pitch. Only problem is the possibilty of blocking light into the houses behind. Just an idea!

    other ways

of making revenue is to leave the car park there build on pre cast concrete posts a huge "holte end" type stand the cars can park underneath. At the top of the wall height you could have corporate boxes above them 4000 seats and behind office and conference suites. Im sure a lot of the voluntary organisations would love a centre where all voluntary, community training and educational groups eg active retired simon, galway city partnership clubs could have offices meeting rooms ansd conference facilities in a one stop shop and the district league could charge a few € less than commercial rates and everyone would win including the city council
