    Post U.C.D. 0-1 Cork City

    U.C.D. 0-1 Cork City

    Belfield Park
    Referee: D. Hancock

A perfectly struck effort by striker Roy O'Donovan on the stroke of half time enabled Cork City to kick-start their Premier Division campaign with their first goal and first win in three league games. UCD's Irish Under 21 international goalkeeper Darren Quigley easily collected early long-range efforts from Cork's Bosnian midfielder Admir Softic and then a shot from striker John O'Flynn. But College then threatened when striker Conor Sammon headed a cross by defender Alan Mahon on the right past the far post.

Cork resumed their dominance when ex-UCD defender Darragh Ryan sent over an inch pefect cross from the left, only for O'Flynn to shoot over the top. But the striker was desperately unlucky not to break the deadlock on 26 minutes. This time a Cillian Lordan opening on the right allowed Roy O'Donovan to step over the ball to set up the chance for O'Flynn only to see his effort brilliantly blocked at close range by the outstretched legs of Quigley.

Deserved win as we created all the chances with patchwork side. Same old belfield - won't cut the spongy grass...
