...and if someone feels the need to put a club on their flag, their are one or two Irish ones out there I think...

no sorry lads i'm not convinced, i saw that chelsea fella at croker with a kid who was decked out in irish kit , he obviously has allegience to ireland and chelsea , he is obviously london-irish , why not proclaim what he is at Ireland games and at Chelsea games. its no more ridiculous than putting the name of a boozer on the flag which has become a tradition now and i think these banners look great and add to the atmosphere. no problem with the galway utd or rovers or shels lads putting their name on the flags but why adopt this more irish than thou attitude? give me our individualism and our different cultures every day than 80,000 germans with the same flag.

Secondly........Unbelieveable post.You can't see any reason why an anti Irish Club like Chelsea should be on a Tricolour no?Look on youtube and you'll see various clips of the Chelsea scum singing "No Surrender!" etc etc.

Actually if your going to be factual it is against the law to desocrate the flag under the 1937 Constitution.

But it's commonly accepted when Irish Clubs etc are put on it.However putting an English Club on an Irish flag isboth farcical and disgraceful.

My son ( if i ever have one) will most likely not be born in ireland, surely if i can convince him to support Ireland above the land of his birth then a flag with his home town or club on it wouldn't do much harm ? or attract the vitriol that this fella with the chelsea flag seems to have attracted?

But you're missing the point. To put an english club, especially an anti Irish one, on a tricolour is not only plain stupid it is looking for trouble.

You're in continental europe? No problem with putting Brussels for example on a tricolour.

Similarly London on a tricolour is acceptable.

It is not against the law FACT - (sounding like a margarine kid here!)

The only reference to the flag is article 7 which states "The national flag is the tricolour of green, white and orange

As well as this, I believe the tricolour flags you can buy in Carroll's etc. are merely representations of the National Flag and as such it's OK to write stuff on it, hang it in a stadium or tie it around you like a cape.

Peter Whitnell is actually RC. His father is protestant. He did get a lot of sectarian abuse from opposing fans all right and gave up GAA for a while over it when his mother got abused at a game.

Sam Maguire and Jack Boothamn are normally the 2 used to prove that the GAA are non sectarian. Or you could just ask the tooth fairy if you believe that.

I have no respect for him as he is an absolute tool.

His attempt to provoke a fight with the Dutch fans during and after the win in the Arena in 2004 and his subsequent reaction when a few of us told him to pull his head in was all the evidence I needed.
