It's a bit soon to be writing Derry off or Fenlon for that matter. I can understand some fans being disappointed at the siginings , but to be fair there were not a lot of options out there. Look at the number and quality of players who left the League altogether. In recent seasons they would have most likely moved within the LOI. The point about Gary Beckett is well made , he told me at the FAI Awards that he would be missing the first few games of the season through his recent injury. He also said he will be retiring at the end of the current 2007 season.

They are already gone from the league and setanta cup. Only league cup, fai cup and CL left. What a dreadful start they are having. Cannot see Fenlon lasting the season. His £1500Stg wages will have to be paid off
Perhaps he will sign Glen Crowe, Alan Reynolds Jim Crawford to pull them out of trouble
This is a Derry City fans view on the Season so far - written a few days ago before tonights defeat - its a short enough article but well written I think - its taken from - http://myirishfootballblog.blogspot....on-so-far.html
2007 marks a new era for Derry City FC. The reign of the flawless Stephen Kenny ended late last season, and he was replaced by the most successful manager in Irish soccer, Pat Fenlon. Fenlon, despite his reputation has had a tough act to follow and the Brandywell faithful expect the ex-Shels manager to take the Candystripes a step further and to lead them to the Eircom League Championship; and with only three games gone a lot of controversy has surrounded the club’s start.
Fenlon got off to a great start with a 1-0 Setanta Cup victory against Glentoran at the Oval, before starting the league campaign with a 1-0 home win to Bray. Derry went on to draw with Drogheda, before recording a quality away win to Sligo Rovers, a place where the Candystripes failed to win at in two attempts last season. Sensationally, Derry’s next two games have caused an array of unrest amongst the fans with two defeats away to Linfield and at home to fellow title contenders St.Patrick’s in the space of four days. Derry’s home draw to Linfield on Monday last night was not enough to rectify the team’s position amongst fans and surprisingly unrest continues amongst supporters, despite an impressive performance.
It is definitely surprising that the Brandywell faithful have shown disapproval at the team’s start. A lot of fans are willing to give Fenlon a chance, though some are already very sceptical. Few fail to realise that Pat is only after inheriting a new squad of players. It does take time to find a team and a system that works for him.Fenlon and Kenny are different men,and it is important that the new manager is allowed to direct his own influence on his new squad. Fenlon has tinkered with the team on a number of occasions, and a man with his track record will get things right in time.
It is worth looking at Derry City’s start to last season under Stephen Kenny. Last season was one of the most successful in the club’s history, yet many forget that Stephen Kenny endured a shaky start in hindsight, and alook at the form guide below is testament to this.

More or less identical! It hasn’t been an ideal start for Fenlon’s men, but it’s been a decent start, a start that Derry City can and should build on.

My own thoughts on it are that perhaps Stephen Kenny got a lot more from the players over the last two seasons than they would normally be capable of - in short he got them over achieving a little bit - now I dont know what Derry fans will make of this but ive seen them a few times this season already and quite a few of them I thought are just not performing to the same levels.
While I agree some of this is probably to do with getting used to a a new manager, new training methods, new formations, altered roles etc - I do see something lacking - a spirit or a belief or a motivation maybe
Maybe some of the players are suffering a slight hang over from last seasons exploits also?
I disagree totally on this point. He had an open cheque book and signed all the best players from his nearest rivals. Shels would have won as many championships with anyone in charge.
Neither of these could be considered "great" imo.
Thats a joke right? Sligo with no manager and the most dreadful defending Ive ever seen. The goalkeeper made 2 howlers for both of Derry's goals against a Sligo side that are struggling this season after losing half their squad.
Why is it surprising? Pre-season seemed dreadful (lost 4-0 away to Dundalk and struggled in other matches, lost 2 in a row in major competitions, lost at home where they had a 100% record for most of last season.
Stop making excuses.
He forgot to mention the signings Fenlon made during close season. Dave Rodgers, Karl Bermingham and Greg O'Halloran in particular. Are these the signings of a side who wishes to progress? He also forgot to mention Fenlon's inability to secure a decent keeper, the most important player on any team. Last but not least he forgot to mention Fenlon's baffling team selection. and formation selections.
Fenlon's track record in cup competitions says it all about his inconsisency due to poor signings, selections and tactics.
We did manage a draw with Dinamo Moscow but I suppose that doesn't count no?
Dave Rogers has already proved himself as a title winner and has endeared himself to the City faithful with his passion and drive. Can't judge Bermingham he's been injured and O'Halloran is undoubtadly a useful squad option. He held on to the nucleas of last year's squad (now minus a Martyn) and it can hardly be all Fenlon's fault that Darren Kelly, Barry Molloy, Mark Farren and Kevin Deery have been underperforming?
What baffling team selections? As for formation only the 451/433 experment at home to Pats seemed odd and, again, it's only purest speculation to suggest that it's all Fenlon's fault that the players are underperforming.
Dammit your right, those league title's he won certainly don't display any kind of consistency
You can suggest that Fenlon has changed our style of play/tactics/personnel/whatever and you still don't have a convincing answer as to why good players arn't doing the business, why many of the senior players have yet to bring any kind of form into this season and why many of them have been throughly outfought.
Fenlon many be a factor but I think he's right to suggest we haven't been hungry enough on the pitch and it's up to him to turn it around. If he proves unable to get the players back into form, then fine. Sharpen the knives. But after a handful of games....
Ou-est le Centre George Pompidou?
LOL. 4 Defeats in a row now. and 2 home defeats in a row . Theres no doubt about it hes a gonner. The question is who will take over?

Quote From Finnpark:Three wins out of four and third in the table - that's the kind of struggle i'll live with any day.Thats a joke right? Can anyone explain to me why Dave Rodgers is playing at full back?
He is a centre back (a poor one at that) if anything. He is over 6ft, slow, has poor distribution, cannot take opposing full back on to get crosses in. How the hell is he playing at left full apart from being left footed? Does anyone rate him even as a centre back? He looked terrible also on the Eircom League highlights last night.

He played left full for Shels all the time.
John Delaney!! GET OUT!!!

Where Fenlon was manager too. I don't think he is good enough for the Eircom League and that he is a centre back. When he signed for Shels first he played at centre back?
The fact remains that if Stephen Kenny had the players Fenlon had at Shels he would have won the league by 20 points.
