    Peter Delaney gone ?

    From eleven-a-side.com...filed Saturday

    EXCLUSIVE Drogs chairman steps down

Drogheda United chairman Peter Delaney has resigned from his post, plunging the relegation threatened club into further chaos.

This was Delaney’s third season with the club but after weeks of off the field problems and a run of poor results, which sees the club facing relegation, the hard-working chairman has resigned.

In his first season with the Louth side Delaney didn’t spend much money and instead embarked on a mission to bring in local players and set up a youth academy. What followed was the North East Academy and it remains as a testament to his reign.

The following season Drogheda gained promotion from Division One against all the odds but financial matters have worked against the club this term. United now have a number of full-time players and thus the wages have increased; yet crowd numbers have failed to do so.

Drogheda’s aim this year was to avoid relegation and although they have not dropped back down automatically, it now looks like they will have to play a relegation play-off to survive.

Delaney’s decision to step down came as a surprise to many at 02 Park and no replacement has been named.
