Wexford Youths 1-0 Cobh Ramblers

Wexford Youth Football Complex,
Referee: P. Sutton

Tom Elmes gave Wexford Youths’ debut home crowd of 2,130 plenty of cheer with a second half winner at windswept and rain-lashed Newcastle. Elmes struck ten minutes into the second half, to catch the sluggish Cobh defence square, as he ran through onto keeper Jason Russell’s long clearance.

The striker kept his head, to take the ball round Cobh keeper James McCarthy and slide it home. But Cobh have only themselves to blame for a second successive defeat as they wasted a host of chances.

Substitute Davin O’Neill was their chief culprit, twice
