It is a bad joke really.
The only outcome of penalty shootouts deciding matches is the negative teams who have little chance of winning becoming even more negative in the hope of fluking a win on penalties. Disaster.
Hello All,
I thought it was a Early April Fools Joke, but its actually being discussed!![]()
From the BBC:
Football managers and chairmen have laughed off proposals to decide drawn Football League games with a penalty shoot-out.
League chairman Lord Mawhinney wants to introduce shoot-outs to allocate a bonus point at the end of a drawn game!
Any thoughts? One caller to five live said maybe one point each for a no score draw and 2 points each for a score draw might be the real route to attacking football. Now where did we hear that before??![]()

All of this has happened before. All of it will happen again.
Ridiculous idea.
Would be amazed if this was passed.
I'm what? I'm ants at a picnic?
useless idea. i would rather the idea of bonus points awarded for 3 goals or so than penalties at the end of games. both bad ideas but bonus points slightly better. leave well enough alone i reckon
I remember at one stage someone floated the idea of drawn league matches being decided on corners. Fortunately the idea was soon quashed as ridiculous. Nobody likes floaters anyway.
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.
Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!
