    ??? 47 overs ???

Whats going on now I am so confused, are they restarting?

Will Hill have Ireland as 7-1 on to win the match (I backed than at 9-2) so it
is looking good I wil win some money.
They are actually 8-1 on now, it looks like they have restarted play
says Total for 4 wickets 84 (29.0 ovs).

So it is a normal match now?

Edit - I understand it now, it is reduced to 47 overs and also a reduced target of 128

    Ireland 16-1 on now

You can follow the match ball by ball here. Commentary is uninspiring to say the best but it does the job, I suppose.

Seems that because of the delay, there isn't time to play 50 overs, so we're cutting it to 47 overs. So we need fewer runs to win.

    Cricinfo's ball-by-ball is better.

Dont understand why RTE arent showing this.

For those not up to speed on some ofthis. We need to score at about 2 an over for the rest of the match (however long that is). A wicket is the equivalent of losing about 6 runs.

Further wickets lost will affect us how exactly? Will they only come into play if the game is ended prematurely? I didn't quite get what the commentary said two further wickets would do.

How could they? There's only two channels, it's a minority sport and very demanding on air time.

I'll try to explain quickly. There is something called the Duckowrth Lewis method whcih tires to work out how many runs you would score if the innings finished. The 2 key factors are the numbers of overs left and the number of wickets. The idea is you would score at a higher rate the more wickets you have left.

Asd I say the net impact is that we will lose about 6 runs from our expected final score for every wicket we lose.

Will it only come into play if there 47 overs aren't reached?

Yes. As it stands the target is 128 assuming no further interruptions. The umpires will be reluctant to call the players off (or offer Ireland the light) with a result so close.

The 6 went to his head.
As Irishmen we dilute our sense of nation by depending on the English to bring us our balls

    108/5 now after 33 overs.

Was that our first six in the world cup?
