I think die hard would be a better word. I couldnt believe it when the new stand started emptying with 10 minutes still to play, unbelieveable !

I think 690 was the official attendance at UCD-Cork, seemed like a fair bit more.

felt closer to 1000. Good college crowd aswell, free beer offer worked. though i had to pay with my DIT student card. UCD unluckly not to snatch another back too.

Stand was emptier than it looked; I reckoned 700-800 from looking at it (though hoped it'd hit 1000).

Promo worked well; ending may have ensured a few will return. 289 students in total, though obviously all getting in for free.

Free beer promotion and still only 289 students! Great idea but not exactly sustainable I reckon!

Re Galway new stand emptying; in fairness I think what happens is they all make their way to the gate so they can beat the crowds at the final whistle. If you watch the gate at the Dyke road you'll see very few actually leave the ground before the final whistle.

GUFCT: Very controversial! Real fans! Id say a hell of a lot of those in the new stand are season ticket holder of the older generation! Im sure you said it tongue in cheek.

The thing is, that didn't cost the club any money. The free beer was provided by the sponsors and made available by the student bars. We had nothing to lose and the promotion certainly worked to some extent. Apart from the League Cup final of 2005 the club hasn't been promoted on the college in years. You now have a few hundred people who came who never went before. Hopefully a few will be back and the word will have spread a little bit about the club. A home draw in tomorrow's cup draw would help as well.

About 100 people outside the stand so if 590 inside it (what is the capacity?) then that would be correct. 100 City fans at most.

Been going to Belfield for years but dawned on me last night how it just does not look like a football ground. Its the overlooking apartments & trees that make it feel like a park which I feel affects the football. Hopefully the new ground will improve things.

Would have got more if you didnt clash with Munster down the road. For example the saturday night. More away fans and maybe some of the Munster fans. Seemed daft to have two different games on less than a mile apart the same time.

BTW great crowd in Galway. Fair play. Looks like Longford staying the thursday night didnt work.

848 capacity in the stand. The one behind the goal is 600. Thought there was more than 100 around the ground, but it doesn't make a difference to total attendance.

I know UCD have always had a problem getting large numbers of students to attend games but I always assumed there was some on campus promotion for every game.

Surely a few posters in campus bars and common rooms wouldn't go astray.

It did happen in the past, to very little effect. It's hard to explain just how much competition there is for poster space in the college. The big societies have teams armed with professionally designed glossy colour A0 posters just waiting for 'the rip'. It takes a lot to compete with that. There's some of it now, backed by our CPO, but it's no exactly visible among the noise.

John's pretty much hit the nail on the head. Postering in Belfield is like p1ssing into the wind. For the last three home games I've put posters up on Thursday and Friday before work only to see them ripped down by lunch. We'll continue to give it a go but it's frustrating.

Way more than 100 standing. Stand was half full (c 420), with the balance standing.

Cork had 30-50 according to your own forum. Would agree with that as well.

6000 according to one of the papers - it could've been the Mail.
