AERTEL's eL Focus is on League attendences this week, with this thread getting a mention in absence of official figures.

Why did you pick us out? Of the 4 teams he gave figures for, we are down by the least amount!

The foolishness of a drop of 50 people being called a large drop I'd assume.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

Article is spot on about the ridiculous midweek first division fixtures. Last year we were in Kilkenny twice midweek. What could have been a good crowd on a saturday night turned out to be an embarrassment. One of these games was played same night as France v Spain

However there are also premier fixtures scheduled for midweek just not so many. There is no point in taking a summer break in any form if the result is more midweek games.

I've said it before to the guy who does the fixtures that the bank holidays should be used for a full round of fixtures e.g. a full round of games on the friday preceding the holiday and then another round on the bank holiday monday itself. This would cut out the dreaded midweek fixtures. You can all guess to the response to this common sense suggestion

It appears that Noel Mooney's trojan work is being undermined by the insistence to still play games midweek. Shame.

Treasurer didnt have the exact figure when I spoke to him but gave me the following rough break down

    200 season tickets
    80 Pepsi Summer Camp passes
    320 paying customers

    So 600 is the estimate

I was talking to a guy who did a rough count (the game was that boring) and he reckoned something around 450

I only pass on the figure I receive from the club.

Boring is probably too good a word for it and if things dont improve soon all that will be going are the 200 or so die hards

I love the idea that you thing your guess of "well over 1,000" is right, and the official figure of 763 is wrong. What possible reason would the club have of giving out a lower crowd figure than was actually present!?!?

If this thread has proved anything, its that supporters ALWAYS over estimate their own crowd, and underestimate the opposition's. Thankfully clubs like Pats, ROvers and Bohs are releasing official figures as this bickering over 100 or so fans is absolute nonsense

Sorry BR, not having a go, just giving an alternative count; it's very difficult to judge a small crowd in a large stand anyway.
New stand is absolutely superb btw.

Hey, even when UCD release an official figure, some people will still bicker!

Update after week 15. Does anyone go to Derry games these days?

While attendances are on the up across the league, clubs are always looking for ways to increase awareness of their fixtures, and also of their community work.

Yesterday, Paisley helped the Super Saints to boost their profile in their area by helping a team of St. Pat's workers to drop leaflets throughout residential areas near to their Richmond Park home.

Attendances have been very impressive throughout the league this season and have increased by 29.31% on last year. A total of 187,896 people watched the opening 150 matches of the 2007 season. This compares with the 120,121 who watched the opening 124 fixtures of last season.

When averaged out, this shows that there is on average an extra 300 people at every single eircom League of Ireland fixture this season - an increase of almost 30%.
