Fifa launch invesitgation - from the BBC

that guy in the grey tracksuit clearly threw and connected with a punch is David Navarro, an unused sub - he will be in serious trouble.

Is it me, or is footie on the Continent starting to resemble a bunch of zoo animals this season? It seems like every day I see some new story about an incident somewhere in Europe.

Is he the guy who grabs a shirt and then starts running off and hits an Inter player on the way? He gave a good impression of a Shane Horgan darting along the wing against England.

They go down a lot quicker during the match.
See how effective the cordon around the dressing room is at 2:43 in the video.
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

Anglophiles note: the 'continent' and 'Europe' includes Ireland and - gasp! - even glorious England!!!!
I thought that was hilarious last night. But the hang 'em/flog 'em brigade will just use this as another excuse to try and make the game of football even more dull and ole-friendly.
The reason Anglocentric football fans only hear of 'this kind of thing' is because you're too busy wearing Premiership blinkers to see that there's a whole world of football out there.
Besides, a bit of anarchy now and then relieves the tedium of bland consumerism.

You'll also note that the valencia crowd loved it. As would the Inter fans had they won.

Give the guy a couple of games ban and move on.

(Oh yeah and there is an incident each week in europe. Mainly because there are 1,000s of games each week, meaning something is bound to happen)

I love the clip of the guards out side the dressing room and in runs the tallest guy runs in without, by the looks of it, any of the security seeing him. class.
    It's only just begun...............
If the last 21 years were class, here's looking forward to the next 21 years. It is our time

Whats the urge to have a bit of a rant about Anglophiles about? The only poster to use the term 'continent' lives in the USA. It's the CL last 16, big game and big enough news.

I agree although its obviously one of the most high profile incidents.

Valencia will not be thrown out of the competition. The sub who punched the lad may get long ban & few Inter players might get 2-3 match bans.

I would think the incidents in the tunnel will be more serious for Valencia as could be charged for having inadequate policing/stewarding.

As the GAA lad at work said - would be trivial stuff in local GAA club game.

Pat Dolan was typically OTT on Setanta last night saying someone could have been killed! As incidents in soccer go it was fairly serious, it could have led to trouble in the crowd. That Navarro fella is a pussy, he through a dig and then pegged it off. He should be brought out and kicked as punishment.

I would have expected Marchena to be throwing the punches (indeed it was his bit of argy-bargy with Burdisso that started the whole thing off) but Navarro is a fairly mild-mannered lad. It must have been a real rush of blood to the head. I wish to god he would learn to use the turn of pace he showed last night when defending.
I agree on a lengthy ban for him and maybe financial penalties for the clubs. Mind you, in Spain, Real Madrid are incandescent at the way Van Bommel could gesture "up yours" to its fans and only be ordered to give some Fair Play lectures.
Materazzi was conspicuous by his absence!
Still, big element of sour grapes on the part of the Italians. They're cruising in Serie A and last night must have come as a bit of a let down.

I couldn't see any picture in the IT on line version.
I think the shock within GAA circles is that more players didn't fall to the ground in agony.
