I agree. Wasn't paying full attention to the game but thought he did well. I don't see how teams could complain about the sendings off. There were plenty of late challenges too.Originally Posted by OneRedArmy
We all moan about eL refs but from what I can tell much better than the IL. Remember the best refs for both sides should be involved in the Setanta Cup.
I have to agree with Pete and OneRedArmy.
Ian is probably the best referee on the eL Panel (along with Paul Tuite) - also seen him on international duty and was excellent (Wales - Slovenia in Swansea last year).

I thought he done quite well myself and i've been an massive criticiser of him in the past. I didnt think he was that strict, all decisions he made bar 1-2 were correct ones. The 2 sendings off were clear, one for booting a ball into someones face and the other a wild lunge
At times I felt he made no account for the conditions, which were really bad. I would agree that Gault's second yellow was spot on but I thought the first yellow was harsh. I would agree totally that your refs are better than ours. Ref was not too bad last night but the wee dwarf of a linesman on our side of the ground was awful.
Conditions my arse! They're a shower of hackers in that IL and Stokes was correct with every decision.
Lets see how their boys handle the Pats v City game next week. The NI officials were shocking the last two seasons anyway.
Fair play to Stokes, he's done well in some tough games. Derry v Shels in the eL Cup being one of them.

Didn't witness his performance last night but to be honest he has been brutal at the Brandywell. The league cup game was played in a really wet surface, he didn't allow for any margin of error at all.
He reffed the Derry Linfield game too at the Brandywell and he gave an amazing decsion, not as bad as soem of the major ones at Dalymount last year though. He blew for a free to Linfield when Bailie clattered into his own keeper - the nearest Derry player was about 5 yards away. He just infuriates me with his lack of common sense. At least Tuite and Hancock let the play flow at times, Stokes stops games too much, plays no advantage and spoils whatever game he is officiating in.
