I agree. I was just making the point it wasn't a slow start for us, as Pete posted. Looking at the standard last night, ourselves and Cork should pick up maximum points home and away v the Northern teams

    From now on

Great start for Pats alright.....good for the confidence.

Our group will come down to the Pats City matches to see who wins it.

Drogs are up against it alright but from the coverage Derry were shaky enough last night so its far from over.

Yes but new management. Total new way the club is being coached.

We weren't great but were never shakey. The only problem I had with last night's performance and had all last season too is the anonymity of Martyn in the midfield away from the Brandywell. Aside from that, we will only get better with more competitive games. I was unaware Cork had played so few preseaon matches, but I still see them as a threat. As I said previously Linfield will be a match for any team. As far as the Drogs are concerned I can't see them getting a draw or win at the Brandywell. We will be up for it big time, especially with the added spice of Stuart Byrne's welcome to look forward to.
As Irishmen we dilute our sense of nation by depending on the English to bring us our balls

On that point, I hate to say it but ye had better get used to playing 4-5-1 in anything but the first round when ye are in Europe. Fenlon has a "thou art the mightier, o European opponent!" mentality as soon as he's clear of the first round. It will be a far cry from the positive attacking football that Stephen Kenny had you playing.

    Don't say I didn't warn ye .

Exactly! Fenlon is the most successful LOI manager this decade, end of. Never heard Shels fans moan about his record or style before. If you think Fenlon was negative, you've obviously wiped the memory of DK's last spell with you.

Well we have, in Europe we moaned about his style of play, and in the league playing Harris up front which worked not alot. Also, with the money he had at his disposal I think anyone could have won the league

We struggled against the smaller teams last year in fairness Especially teams who played 5-5-0 at the Brandywell. But I'm sure Doolin will be under more pressure to actually allow his team to pass the half way line at the Brandywell this year on more than 2 occaisions. The 3-1 game at United Park was a disaster - and IMO Kenny's team selection that night was ridiculous and was affected by telling the players that day that he was off to Dunfermiline.

This year though you are the new Shelbourne, we tend to raise our game.

I'd originally have backed Drogs, but am less confient in them now they've lost at home.

I can see Linfield and City sneaking through from our group. Depending on who gets the home draw in the semi, I then wouldn't be surprised if it ended in a Derry-Linfield final after that.

That would certainly draw the biggest crowd and generate the most excitement ! Though it would probably have to be played at Windsor, which would be an issue.

You mean there's a chance we mightn't? I thought our FAI Cup third round at Tolka had become an annual thing?

Why would it be an issue? Us playing at Tolka Park against Shelbourne was not an issue.

    Why?????

Was grand last year and should be grand this year,
has a bigger capacity than Tolka, and much closer,
day out in belfast is a lot cheaper than a day out drinking in dublin

commendable reaching for the stars there

I somehow doubt Derry will get out of the group, let alone be able to beat pats at the semi final or final stage.

I look forward to meeting Linfield though
