    Get your protest t-shirts!

Here we go - best I could manage.

Thanks to eL punter for doing all the work.

If anyone has a cheaper way of putting it together (like a marker), feel free to do so.

    Spread the word too!

Delaney out... Who to come in???

How many Chief Executives do the FAI need? Liam Mulvihill has been Director General of the GAA for years upon years. The FAI change their head man more than an English Club changes its jerseys. Due to stability (and a bit of intelligence), the Gah have 1.7 million attending their games every year, they have Croke Park (82,500 capacity), the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick (over 50,000 capacity with 35,000 seats), Thurles being redeveloped into 65,000 capacity stadium, Clones being redeveloped into 50,000 capacity stadium, Fitzgerald Park into 45,000 capacity stadium while we have our 'jewels' such the decrepit Tolka and Dalymount disappearing.

Some weekends there are only 10,000 people attending Eircom League games. There are serious problems and it is now time for tough action, that action does not involve blaming the GAA for all our ills, but facing reality and realising that it is time to do something.

Rugby has exploded in popularity due to there being three large clubs in the country as opposed to the numerous little clubs that might get a couple of hundred to a game in the AIL. There are too many clubs in Dublin with little support. That is a fact whether people like to accept it or not. Shelbourne could never generate a large support base and that was their main problem. Neither will UCD and we know what happened to Dublin City. There should be three or four clubs in the capital and the rest should be throughout the Island (yes, the entire Island).

Instead of Delaney out, can we have Delaney out and then a suggested person in? Otherwise, it is just like listening to Labour and Fine Gael criticising Fine Fail and not putting any alternatives forward themselves.

SO TELL ME, WHO SHOULD REPLACE DELANEY? WHO IS THE MESSIAH TO CLEAN UP THE MESS?

Do you expect the general public to know all the available candidates?

I would expect loyal Eircom league fans to know who would be a capable candidate.

I don't have much time for John Delaney but he has decided to sort out the problems in the league and this is now upsetting people that deny that their clubs are poorly run.

I don't know if Delaney is the man but he has a decent track record in business over a long period of time. Fran Rooney got lucky in business and got even luckier by selling a large amount of shares before the dot com crash. He was hailed as a hero but the only thing he did was to try and turn Lansdowne into a karoke show. Trying to force Irish fans to sing "you'll never walk alone" and playing "hey baby" constantly. He was no savour. All talk but no substance.

The anti Delaney faction don't like him because he wears dodgy suits, has a dodgy hair cut and is trying to clean up the disaster of a League.

One of the biggest gripes about Delaney is that he appointed Stan.

But yet, the anti Delaney faction want to repeat the same mistake for which they criticise him!

What is the point of sacking someone until there is a decent replacement?
    (i.e. sacking Kerr for Stan)

I agree with your frustrations Woodie, but think you're wrong IN expecting fans to answer the FAI's questions for them. And that's ignoRing the fact that anyone the fan's like is highly likely to not be popular with the FAI !

Firstly - Delaney is just wrong for the job and is making an absolute balls of it. For that reason he should go. WhethEr or not we can propose a replacement for him is irrelevant in this.

Secondly - the key thing when Delaney goes is to NOT follow the usual FAI 'Jobs for the Boys' philosophy that saw Delaney appointed in the first place. Do you remember seeing any open process to appoint the head of the FAI prior to Delaney ? No. Instead, he effectively had himself appointed as acting head, and then - surprise, surprise his position was made official some months later.

Thirdly - the principle in recruiting a replacement CE for the FAI is therefore that there should be an open Europe/world-wide search for a suitably experienced sports/public administrator to replace Delaney. You can't expect ordinary fans to just conjure up names - do yoU know anyone suitable in England ? Or Holland ? Or Scotland ? Or even elsewhere within the public/private sector in Ireland ? And that's before you even factor-in whethEr any fan's wish-list would contain people who actually had any interest in the role !

Expecting the fans to do the FAI's appointment work here is just wrong. They need to get rid of Delaney, and then instigate a proper, public and transparent external search process to find a well qualified replacement. That is their job to do, not ours.

I don't expect the fans to form the solution.
However, if fans decide that a protest should be done, then it is their belief that they should have influence over the solution. What is the point in having a protest when there have not been any solutions put forward until your mail.

I do recall the process being very open when Rooney got the job. I have to admit that I thought that he'd be a great Chief Executive, instead he turned out to be the definitive muppet!

I think Connolly was the decent Chief Executive. He was superb with the media but he got out while the going was good.

I just don't see the point in this protest. I'll be there to support the team and hope in the delusional belief that we might grab six points from the next two games.

Woodie, your issues are already dealt with in the original thread. Please take the time to do some background research on the issues before taking this thread away from its intended purpose.

If you want a t-shirt, buy one. If you don't, no-one's forcing you.

I am sorry for not seeing the other thread but there is no need for the condescending remarks.

I was merely asking a number of questions which lead to a very interesting response from dcfcsteve as opposed to the usually poor attempts at humour. However, I would suspect that my suggestion that there should be only four clubs from Dublin hurt you more than most (p.s. it is not an anti-UCD comment as I played Collingwood Cup for UCD - if one game counts!).

Thanks for giving me the option of purchasing the tee shirt but I don't think it'll be warm enough in Croker

Nothing to do with that. We are the top team in Dublin now, so I don't see why I shoud feel threatened by your suggestion of taking away one Dublin team.

Anyways, my t-shirt arrived today. Looks well. I can easily wear it over a jumper if I want to keep warm and make a protest.
