The Echo....and a large pinch of salt !!!

Well Spillage has another exclusive !!!!
(You know, the guy who on Monday said "HE'S BACK !! as exclusively revealed by the Echo on Jan 25th !!)
Don O'Riordan is now the man it seems.
Lennox "will be in a position to make an announcement on our new manager in the middle of next week - say Wednesday "
Others also mentioned were:
Mick Flanagan, ex-Waterford
Martin Heffernan,
Mike Kelly, ex-Birmingham City and Luton Town scout
John Morling, Peterborugh United
and Carl Davenport (The Dav) who works with Bolton's scouting team.
City are also having ongoing talks with Rennie to try to get him to sign a new contract.

From the tone of the Spillage piece, I get the impression O'Riordan is the main target.
So we can deduce from this that Don O'Riordan will not be the next manager !!

I found it very funny in his article on Monday saying that a source very close to Roy, said that "Kerr being a perfectionist will be a big influence on Roys decision, being a perfectionist himself"(sic ).

This source is in fact an article written by Dion Fanning in the Sunday Indo 8 days previous. What an idiot of a Journalist!

Oh and the other thing, u will note if u scroll down that the fact that BBM signed for Shef Wed was posted here on the same day as the signing actually happened. Spillane had an exclusive 7 days later that it happened. As ive said what an idiot of a Journalist!

Yeah and probably never realistically was, especially with his refusal to apply. Rico wont be considered and all the other candidates bar O'Riordan seem to have been forgotten about.

He wouldnt have been one of my first choices but he would still be a good appointment.

As for Spillane, even if he has got this one right, he's still a muppet.

Thats the worrying thing alright. There does appear to be players who will refuse to play for Don O'Riordan, and if thats the case then he should not be given the job.

It would be by no means the best appointment City COULD and SHOULD make but assuming that City are not going to give the job to Rico, I think it would be a reasonably good appointment. Im saying he would be a good appointment in the sense that he has a knowledge of the league and would be a far better choice than bringing in an English manager who wouldnt have a clue.
Still having said that, he is unproven and is by no means the best man for the job.

Well I don't know much about Don, (except that Neil thinks very highly of him !), but what I do know does not fill me with optimism.
Sligo have gone down during his time there.
He seems to have achieved nothing and any hint of player dissatisfaction is surley only storing up trouble for the future.

O'Riordan OUT !............

Some Galway fans reckon he's the best manager they ever had, however I would have thought he was more of a 'do a good job on a shoestring' manager rather than a 'last shove towards success' type. We played the other Rovers in the Cup about 12 months ago and they played some nice football albeit with some very limited players.

Sorry

Forgot to ask has Spillage taken any holidays at the end of the season or has he been writing in the Echo regularily over the last few weeks ?

I wrote to him but he never got back to me.

Cheers oddboy!

I do think Don O'Riordan would be a very good appointment. (the rumours about players not willing to play for him are probably exaggerated, hopefully!)

He has always come across as real 'football true and true' man and the fact that he has been working professionally in management for years is a plus.

If Spillane has got this one right let's get behind the guy and give him a chance.

have to agree with james and colm on this one. the impending appointment of EL Don does fill me with some foreboding. typicial of the lunacy of the game that we appoint a man who managed a relagated club and has done little of any real worth. at least gunther got us into europe.

this guy looks like a tulip but sure once he attends a few supporters clubs meetings that will keep people happy
john flynn? - awesome!!!!!!

First off, I'm thinking the appointment of O'Riordan isn't the best move City ever made, but whoever is appointed should be given a fair chance people!

Well I think that Rico ALWAYS wanted the job and said so.
He just didn't feel he had to apply, as his record is well known.
If it's a choice between the two, Rico gets my vote!

He is the man for the job, but he isnt bigger than the job. By acting the tool and not applying for it, he is doing himself no favours.

Maybe if both himself and Lennox werent so proud (pig headed), they could come to a solution. After all, it is in Citys best interest to appoint the best man.

Spot on GWA. I can understand Rico not wanting to actually have to post in his CV to Lennox's chipper (which was the address on the ad I think) but even if he rang Lennox and said "I want the job"?

Lennox is acting the ****** too though by saying things like he's not gonna go chasing Rico.

Sort it out for the good of Cork City, lads.

Eh lads O'Riordon never managed a relegated team, he was sacked before the season started at Galway and Sligo were in the first when they appointed him
