We cant organise one at a top flight game sometimes imagine 5 each game

    Platini plans five refs

Michel Platini's election manifesto was full of pious rhetoric but light on detail, yet when the Frenchman won the Uefa presidency last month his victory was hailed as the dawn of a revolution in European football. And today the 51-year-old put forward his first radical change - which is aimed either at reducing the number of refereeing mistakes or slashing the continent's unemployment rate.

Rather than advocate the introduction of video technology to assist with decision-making on the pitch, Platini has suggested increasing the number of officials from three to five, with the two additional men in black being stationed in the penalty areas. "Two more officials would definitely help to clear up misunderstands," said a Uefa spokesperson. "Platini does not want to break up the flow of the game with video technology but he is keen to see a new system."

    Article continues
Platini has previously been quoted saying: "We have to help referees, who can't see everything and I believe two more assistants on either side of the pitch would do this. It would help judging offside decisions as well as a range of off-the-ball incidents." He has said he is opposed to the use of technology because that would gradually erode the authority of humans, explaining: "I'm against refereeing by video. Where would it stop? If you start with videos, you will finish with videos and there would be no more."

Platini will invite Fifa to discuss the idea at its AGM, which will be held in Manchester on March 3.

The FA in England lost 7,000 referees last season

The plans for 2 more officials per match is blatantly unworkable

The preception of a problem with refs making mistakes is because of technology. Every major football match (except here of course) has tons of cameras. So every incident is replayed over and over from several different angles. So adding a couple more linesmen isn't going to help. They should either put up with referees making mistakes or introduce video technology.

And the TV doesn't play, replay and replay the good decisions by referees.

I cant see it helping if one ref and a linesman cant see a trip / dive because of the speed it happens at then i cant see how an extra ref would spot it .

plus having 3 refs will just confuse things what if each one see's somethign different who has the ruling vote and in that case whats the point of the others .

While i dont think a video ref will slow the game down as anytime i watch a game the incident has been replayed 5 times by the time the players surrounding the ref have stopped moaning . I think its far worse for the game to have kids watching Rooney swearing at the refs than stopping the game for 30 seconds . if the ref could just call "video" then there would be no point in any players moaning to him .

Now the problem with that is on the main sky game they have loads of cameras but there isnt that many cams at every game and none at some games in lower divs .

Something has to be done recently Keith Hackett apon watching 10 incidents from this season involving everton peno claims not given he said 8 should definete penos how many points has that cost them ??
