Sorry but my links aren't working. but go to the sports section and read "opinion polls contradict FAI boss over Stan"
There's also an article in the paper itself titled "FAI stand by their man"
Brilliant.
Can't find it in the Web edition though

Tact is for people who are not witty enough to be sarcastic
From elevenaside.com - says it all really
Republic of Ireland manager Steve Staunton feels there is “no common sense” to calls for his dismissal, insisting that Ireland have no right to expect victories against sides such as the Czech Republic.
Ireland’s Euro 2008 qualification hopes were dashed following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Czechs on Wednesday night.
With three largely meaningless games to come before the end of the European campaign, there have been calls for Staunton to step down – or the FAI to take action.
In response, Stan said: “That’s the world we live in. If it’s not me it’s Eddie O’Sullivan, if it’s not Eddie it’s someone else. That’s the way it is. There’s no middle ground here, no common sense really. You can’t be calling for a manager’s head after every defeat.
“When you look at it, we’re playing the Czech Republic, who are in the top 10 in the world. I mean, we’ve no divine right to be going to these countries and winning games.
“That’s our own self-belief and that’s what I have to try and change in the players’ minds and they’re slowly coming round.”
What annoys me is that the czechs are no great shapes in comparison to the force they have been when smicer, poborsky and nedved were in the side. Stan is a desperate man, grasping for positives when there clearly is none. Is he really that pigheaded and ignorant that he can't see how clear it is that he's simply not the man for the job?? (or any job in football for that matter) .... did anyone else notice also, while on thetouchline, he does the same thing, points in the same direcion, does red in the face shouting, but not a hope in hell anyone knows what hes saying....
Times vs Indo is interesting today.
Malone saying calm down, despite having dropped subtle criticisms of Staunton repeatedly over the last year and continuously referring to Staunton as under threat.
Indo (McDonnell? web version doesn't give the journalist's name) picking holes in every line of propoganda that Delaney is spouting.
Indo wins hands down for me today.

The Czechs were still good enough to paralyse us for 35 minutes. After that they sat back, if needed they would have pushed for a winner and certainly they can play the football to craft out a goal.
The next 3 games are only meaningless in terms of qualification but umpteen times more valuable than a friendly. If we do not perform then will the FAI vote of confidence in Stan weaken once they see the scenario of thousands of empty seats looming and the criticism levels increase.
.
what id be afraid of would be the pillock getting a few good results in the last 3 when obviously it wont matter and paint ovr the cracks "giving encouragement for the future"
thanks Gustavo..watching that again now two days after the event and after calming down..i think they spoke alot of sense and were reasonable in their assessment......
Bring back the plank
Reasonable coment in a tone that suggested a certain amount of sadness at having to say it. Just about sums it up. Not the players fault, not the supporters fault , not even Stans fault (presuming he gave it his best shot). It's all Delaneys fault for appointing a manager who wouldn't stand up to him.

Easy to tell that the Irish fan in the studio is Brady, his heart is with the team. Giles is so detached that he could be analysing Azerbaijan.
can anyone help this lad out ?

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE A POLL TO SEE IF IT IS ANY LESS THAN 100% THAT SAY STAN SHOULD GO AND GO NOW?
Delaney also, but that cannot be less than 100%, and more so than Stan. He didn't ask for the job and is ill equipped to deal with it.
I can't disagree with anything Dunphy says. Pity I never get to hear what these lads have to say anymore.
I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.
In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.
are you having a joke or what?
the point of it all is that we dont actually have a crap team, its half decent, and surely better than scotland and Norn Iron if we had a good manager behind us
the best football ireland has played...................watch that wales game again, and san marino
so Anto will you be back with this quote when we are hammered in the first few games of the WC qualifiers
It's not the great football you play. It's how many goals you get and how few you concede.
We got to two world Cups and European Championship under Charlton and a World Cup under McCarthy.
Jonathon Douglas lost his man against Slovakia and in Prague Kevin Kilbane dived in like a schoolboy and allowed the Czechto step inside and attack Richard Dunne who also dived in, John O'Shea was waiting for the player to be shuffled across to him by Kilbane and he was McGeady's anyway.
Stan picked the wrong team in Slovakia and used the wrong subs. He also picked the wrong team in Prague and obviously didn't learn the lesons from Bratislava.
Is that enough for you.

Sorry, but anybody who thinks that Stan is even doing an adequate, never mind a "good" job, knows nothing. I admit that I would not be the most technically aware, but even with my basic knowledge, I can see that Stan is useless in this position. It is usual in situations like this to have disagreement, but there is NO disagreement here, 100% of the RTE pundits and 100% minus Anto! of fans agree that picking Hunt and Reid to start both games was a simple and correct decision, Stan appears to be the only clown on the planet who could not see this. Steven Ireland's granny could see this.
He can't even get the most basic of basics right, he has to go and he has to go now.
Rubbish, loads of people on here BEFORE the games would have disagreed with playing Hunt and Reid. I assume you mean Hunt for McGeady and Reid for Ireland. Ignoring the obvious point that Ireland scored our goal in Bratislava, there are plenty of people who wouldn't have gone for this. It's so easy in hindsight to jump on the bandwagon of Hunt should have started but I can't remeber anyone being that sure before the game.
