This sound very dodgy. If true Sligo Rovers would of have to been consulted on this based on last seasons placements (with Shels predicament) and never would of agreed.

why would they have to have been consulted? It's a tournament run by its own committee under the jurisdiction of both the IFA and FAI. The rules are drawn up by the committee who then ask the relevant body to invite participants. No consultation needed with anybody - its not as if clubs are affiliated with the Setanta Cup the way they are with the League or FAI

Plus it's an Invitational Tournament - it's up to the committee who they invite

Can't remember where my rule book is, but this suggests that Sligo Rovers should be in.

Agreed, but the best on offer at the moment; hence 'suggests'

Was looking forward to beating Shels live on tv again at the cross. Pats just doesn't have the same appeal & crowd will be smaller...

Would LOVE to know how you come to this conclusion!!

Feel really sorry for the Shelbourne supporters. I sincerely hope things can be sorted out.

    David

The reason people have little sympathy for Shels is simple. They were spending money that everybody knew they hadnt got, they were spending money taking every issue that went against them to arbitration/court/tribunal in order to win the titles, they spent money trying to keep players even though they werent paying them [and losing a fortune at the same time] and they have the most gullible bunch of idiots supporting them who had too much faith in Ollie Byrne and were not prepared to believe what everyone told them over the past 5 years.

In May 2005, a group of Shels fans held up a banner with "J€AŁOU$" written on it because they had signed 3 Bohs players they couldnt afford. I wonder who is Jealous now.

If what I am hearing is true, next season's fixture list wont contain Shelbourne. I for one wont shed a tear although I will regret not having one last chance to gloat.

As Bohs Partisan says elwewhere, a few more team north and south of the border and we'll have an all-Ireland league before w eknow it, bring it on.

Derry City won the FAI Cup but not the league, so the FAI Cup runners up shouldn't qualify. Unless... the Setanta committee are promoting City to the league winners spot in lieu of Shels.
