Shels “in safe hands” – Ollie
Shelbourne chief executive Ollie Byrne, recovering in hospital from recent surgery, has pledged his support to acting chairman Finbarr Flood and chief executive Sean Connolly. Byrne fell ill last week and underwent an operation to remove a brain tumour in recent days. Currently convalescing in Beaumont Hospital, he has issued a statement in support of the efforts of Shels’ Board of Management to keep the club in existence.
The statement read: “Firstly, a big thank you to the hundreds of people, Shelbourne fans and many others, from all around the country and abroad, who have sent cards, contacted the Club and my family to wish me good luck. “I want to assure them that I am doing well and hope to be back in action soon. Much of this is due to the excellent care I have received from the medical and nursing staff both here at Beaumont and at St James’ Hospital.
