Can you give us a link to said forums? Not that I don't believe you, but I watched the match today and he would have been rated 1/10 in my estimation

The whole team played terribly, so perhaps that disperses some of the attention away from him from a Sunderland supporters perspective. I've not had a look, but I'm sure there must be something on his performance. Either way, I'm singling him out because he was the only Ireland player in the side and I'd be worrying if I saw him play like he did yesterday in an Ireland shirt.

    From the Guardian report: http://www.theguardian.com/football/...e-match-report

The Ireland centre-half’s misery deepened when Murray bullied him out of possession, permitting Bolasie to round Pantilimon and complete a richly deserved hat-trick.

    ...

Sunderland were fortunate not to concede a fourth on the hour mark, when O’Shea’s awful touch propelled Murray in behind the home defence, but with Pantilimon advancing out of his goal, the striker lobbed a cross-come-shoot wide of the mark.

But Sunderland’s resistance remained powder-puff and the collapse continued in the 62nd minute as, yet again, Advocaat’s men failed to deal with a routine high ball forwards.

O’Shea utterly misjudged the flight off the ball and then was bounced off it by Murray, with referee Anthony Taylor waving play on.
Sky Sports rated himself and Vergini as Sunderland's worst-performing players with 4/10: http://www1.skysports.com/football/l.../313702/report

I only saw MOTD and O'Shea looked slow and weak against Bolasie for two of the goals. By the same token though it looked like the Red Sea had parted in midfield too, so a CB was always going to be exposed. Sunderland don't have a Glenn Whelan

It would be unfair to single out O'Shea as the whole team was terrible. You could have put Terry or Kompany in that defence and they'd be terrible

Sadly O'Shea's days as a top flight player over (just as SAFC's days as a top flight team is over) but at least O'Shea will put a shift in. The 4-3-3 formation didn't help with the pace on the wings for Palace. Plus when you have players like Rodwell and Gomez in front of you with their hearts the size of a pea in front of you, you're going to struggle. But at least O'Shea is putting the effort in and cares about the team. He is one of a handful of players who can hold their head up and say he tried. You can't fault him for that. It's a shame his best days are gone

o'shea was singled out for praise after their recent win over Newcastle and made the BBCs team of the week. I think his season has been marked with some excellent performances and some dreadful ones also

That's true but it's hard to blame him for the dreadful ones. When O'Shea has been caught out, it's often been in games where he's been under heavy pressure due to the fact that much of the rest of the side are in disarray and, in particular, they can't keep possession in the final third. They're also porous in midfield with Cattermole ploughing a lone furrow, and he hasn't been available always.

I think O'Shea has been victim more of poor management and teammates than he has been victim of old age or inability. I'm probably biased in saying that but I think the fact that he still manages to put in stellar performances demonstrates that his powers haven't waned completely.

I agree. To single him out is unfair. At least you know JOS will put a shift in and won't let you down for commitment. His best days are behind him now but still he has being a key player for SAFC. Sunderland are more or less a Championship side playing in the Premier League.

Josh will be a Premier League player for another year. A clean sheet at the Emirates helps Sunderland to get the points they need to stay up. Man of the match too.

Now 5 goals conceded in 2 hours of football for Sunderland.

Come on, Dick. You are being stubborn. Redeploy O'Shea.

Edit: 6 goals conceded in just over 2 hours of football for Sunderland.

    Tick tock, Dick. Tick. Tock.

Edit: A combined 7 goals conceded against the mighty Leicester and Norwich now.

If your manager thinks Younes Kaboul is better than you it's time to retire John!!!

JOS legs have gone and may that's the reason but he still has it up top. You can see how badly organize the defence and the team is without O'Shea.

His legs seem OK when he plays for Ireland. Perhaps more legs are required for the sort of aimless running about Sunderland specialise in.

John O'Shea to return to the Sunderland side. Advocaat stating he was dropped due to pre-season performances. I reckon they were just a blip because, I'll say it again, he was pretty imperious against Scotland quite recently.
