Did you know? Since O'Shea joined the club, Sunderland have a 27% win percentage with him in the team, compared to 11% when he has been absent.

Crooks really has it in for Mourinho.

Charlie, just while you're here: why is Kieran Waters known as Kieran 'Marty' Waters? His nickname may be Marty but why is it now part of his name, if you know what I mean?

I have absolutely no idea, to be honest. The "Kieran 'Marty' Waters" thing is just a journalist thing - as far as I know everybody just calls him Marty Waters, same as Fabio O'Brien.

Isn't there an English or Irish golfer roughly the same age as him around named Kieran Waters? Maybe he doesn't want to be confused with him.

No idea, I'd say it's probably just a childhood nickname, or else his dad's name is Kieran and he's called Marty to distinguish.

Surely it should be Muddy Waters? You could see him being nicknamed Muddy Waters, maybe it somehow
developed from a mishearing of that?

That could be it, they also call him Roger apparently. His full name is Kieren Muddy Roger Waters.

    Enjoyed this: https://vine.co/v/M1TmgVODY6n

'Tis a clip of John O'Shea getting fooled by a young Chelsea mascot at the weekend.

O'Shea took it well. John Terry would probably have assaulted him and called him a Ginger Cnut.

O'Shea played the full 90 minutes as Sunderland rise out of the relegation zone with a very dominant 4-0 victory over Cardiff. They have a game in hand over the three teams below them, so things looking good for them in terms of staying up.

Sunderland and O'Shea looking good for survival. They're leading 1-0 at Old Trafford. Cardiff and Fulham also happen to be losing.

It's sad that a transfer rumour like that is a "shock". He's a good age for a centre half, he has approximately a hundred caps, Champions League experience, Intl. tournament experience, he has more medals than the whole Spurs team combined, he showed excellent leadership for Sunderland towards the tail end of the season (I know this contradicts what I said a week ago)..

The only strike against him is his nationality.

If he was Van Buyten or Demichelis, it wouldn't be a "shock" and look how consistently crap they turn out to be; Vertonghen and Dawson too for that matter.

Yeah, that league he just won was a joke.

I think Gus Poyet would be amenable if O'Shea wants to move to Spurs. He's already dropped him before, Sunderland have already signed Billy Jones, they've been linked with a plethora of defensive players and O'Shea's in the final year of his contract.

But sure we have been down this road before with Given, Dunne, McCarthy, Doyle and Coleman and a big move never does/never will materialise..
