did O'Shea wear long sleeves? I swear to God, he transformed (or it was a massive coincidence) when he started wearing the short sleeves for us under Trap.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!
I thought O'Shea did well yesterday. He lost Fletcher for the second goal but it was great movement.
Did he start at centreback at the weekend?
He did Gustavo.

You'll NEVER beat the Irish.......you'll just draw with us instead!!!
i thought the brown/o'shea centre half partnership was quite weak. i guess both are used to player alongside a 'leader'.
They won today, but still slating him:

He has been very poor though it has to be said.

A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.
I only saw the highlights on MOTD2 but he looked OK from that. Defended well and passed simply.
He was excellent today. Did exactly what O'neill would have asked of him. The slating he is getting on the Sunderland board is from morons who have never played a game of football in their lives. O'Shea will be captain for the rest of the season under MOn and the morons better get used to it. O'Shea never panicked today. Played some really excellent balls along the right wing. Slow yes. Effective almost every time.
Good news - John has performed superbly since moving to centre back.
Sunderland fans say O'Shea has been playing tremendously at centre back, but should only be used at full back as an emergency.![]()
Will be interesting to see how this situation develops. With Dunne and O'Shea playing well at their respective clubs at centreback, and Stephen Kelly getting regular football at right-back for Fulham, is St. Ledger's starting spot under threat?
Up front too and we are not too shabby on the wings either; we just need to sort out CMF and we would have a very decent side indeed.
If we don't have too many retirees after the Euros and only one of McCarthy, Gibson, Clark, McCann step their game up over the next year we should have a real chance of beating Sweden to second place in our next qualifiers (I just can see us matching Germany over 10 or so games no matter what happens). Maybe by the middle of the qualifiers Henderson and Clifford will have developed enough to be worth an inclusion. Have I overlooked any other CMF options that might be ready before the end of the next qualifiers?
As has been said on here before 1 top-class CMF player is probably the difference between us hovering around the 20's and 30's in the rankings and us breaking into the top 15 in the world.
meyler
Oh yes how could I forget him
So from Gibson, McCarthy, McCann, Meyler and Clark the hope is that one of them can develop enough this year to form a partnership with either Whelan or Andrews that is better than the current Whelan-Andrews partnership.
Which is not a lot to ask for really is it? Even better if two of them can develop enough to form their own partnership.
Sunderland are developing a habit of winning - be interesting if that could be transferred to Ireland (like in the old days!)
