Been to games in Britain and Ireland. The live game is the only way to go. City are me team but that does not mean I do not follow the exploits of other non-Irish teams.

there was some great scraps in the cross over the years- another great kicking duel was deccie and gilzean in a league game in 1998. deccie went to the line
however some of the best ones were in league season in 1998-1999- the opposition just used to lose the head all the time. that cork team were not to be messed with- now we have the sight of george acting like a fairy every time he gets touched.

does anyone remember a game, i think it was against dundalk, and a ball that had gone over the wall was kicked back in. so the ref stopped the game and removed the offending ball. it was nil nil at the time and from the drop ball, instead of giving possession to dundalk, herrick played it out wide and city scored from the ensuing cross. dundalk completely lost it, while we were all celebrating. won 2 nil in the end.
there was a spell there where no opposition team seemed to be able to finish a game with 11 players.
Remember the game well . Flanagen scored the goal youre talking about and the Dundalk lads didn't like it one bit. Ollie scored a brilliant chip late on anyway. You can't judge any league on a few games as you get crap game sin the eL just as much as in the english Premiership.
You could excuse people for watching the english Premiership but why the hell does nayone watch the SPL?????? Saw a bit of that live match last night with tv on in the background & was pure drivel. Wheres the appeal in watching uncompetitive (ok last night Glasgow Celtic scrapped through) game after game with a league basically decided on 4 old firm games. If you have a look at the SPL Premier table you'll see only 2 clubs have a positive goal difference. *LOL*
I know RTE get the SPL for pretty much nothing from BBC but i be amazed if that match last night could match a live eL tv match on a wednesday.

I brought an American friend to a few games earlier in the year ( THE game v. Rovers, the Cup replay v. Harps and the Cup Semi Final v. Derry ) - the guy is totally sold.
Unfortunately for him, he is going back to the US in the New Year. He says he will really miss the atmosphere from the City games as he says they don't sing at American sporting event ( just "Go USA" etc ).
I say there is nothing like live football and in particular live games in The Cross. Oh and before anyone asks I have been to games in England. I love football and if I'm in another City I'll try and get to see a game - ( I went to see Galway v Drogs a few years when on hols. for Gods sake ). I don't associate with anyone else but City though.

That first goal was fine IMO because City had possion on the 1/2 way line when Herrek played the ball down the wing to a city player in space, then the other ball reappeared and the match was stopped. City got the ball uncontested from the dropball and Herrek played the exact same ball down the wing to the player still in space. Ah, that was one of the sweetest goals for so many reasons

As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.
Ollie was on fire that season & most teams had to put two players on him. I think i remember counting the sendings off before & I think Ollie basically singlehandedly got 6 opposition players sent off at the cross that season - most in fact two yellows as well.Originally posted by Troy.McClure
