It has been seven long, managerless weeks for Galway United to endure, but their supporters can finally breathe a sigh of relief tonight.
Chairman Gerry Gray has named former Limerick manager Dave Connell as the man to succeed Don O'Riordan, after the two shook hands on their agreement yesterday following a meeting in Galway. Connell has agreed a one-year-deal.

The 39-year-old Dubliner took over a Limerick team that had finished 10th the season before in Division 1 to the promotion/relegation playoff in 1998. However, he was controversially shafted the following season.

Connell looks as tough as he is, with a shaved head and a figure of muscle. With just six of last season's squad re-signed, he has a huge task ahead of him if he is to keep the Tribesmen - who are hotly tipped to go down - in the top flight.
