Phantom
Huge discussion in college today about what's Ireland's best radio station (although oddly I'm in a photography course). Anyway some plumped for Today FM's personality driven station, others went for 2FM for some bizarre reason, one or two went for Phantom FM, but a handful of us, including myself, went for Lyric FM.
I realise classical music isn't up everyone's street, but theres more to this station than just Mozart, Verdi and their like. For one it has John Kelly keeping the flag flying for proper music, and for two there is often weird moments like the 8 minute long piano recital of the Beatles track 'Martha, My Dear' that has just taken place!

Daaaaaaaycent tunes man. Bangin'
Don't generally listen to the radio much
If I wanted to listen to a mixture of idiocy and crap music I'd take myself off to town on student nights
Today Fm.
Life isn't all beer and football...some of us haven't touched a football in months

Today FM, purely for Ray D'Arcy and Gift Grub, the rest I can take or leave. 2FM???????? There are some strange people out there...
'Fascists dress in black and go round telling people what to do, where as priests.....'
Pretty much my opinion too. If I'm walking, I have a walkman; if I'm driving, I have a CD in the car.
When I think of it, though, Alice Cooper on Today FM is good. Well, he plays good music. He himself is the worst DJ I have ever heard in my life, and I spent most of the time between tracks laughing at him.
Also enjoyed Premier while it was about - there really isn't any radio station now that plays a decent mix of stuff from the 50s to 80s.
RnaG and Radio 1 most of the time - Lyric when its not being too twee and middle brow; it doesn't compare very well to BBC radio 3 - can't stand pop radio anymore - not the music so much as the gobsh!te presentation
A patriot is someone who knows how to hate his country properly.
Work weekends all the time and its Today FM on friday and saturday then 2FM at 10 am sunday for sportsbag and oldies and then the mighty highland radio for local sport.
I think generally why I don't like Today FM is that it relies too heavily on their DJs to drag out every inane joke, well that and they don't play good music. I think Gift Grub has been done to death at this stage, it's like every advertisement on that channel has one of the characters in it, and Ray D'Arcy is a supremely annoying character. The only time I ever had respect for the station was when D'Arcy once played the theme tune of the TV show Taxi, but of course the Irish public texted in their anger at Ray flirting with putting on a track that doesn't include love lyrics for souless people, and yes I am talking about Snow Patrol!![]()

Phantom. I was reduced to listening to Newstalk before it came back as the music everywhere else was so bad.
Anyone want to add a poll?
We're not arrogant, we're just better.
Well I refuse to listen to Today FM simply because the EL doesn't really exist on that station. I find myself listening mostly to Newstalk. I rarely listen to music driven radio these days. I like what I have heard from Phantom but I haven't listened to it that much.
And what a load of sh*te it was. You haven't a clue what you're talking about, too opinionated for your own good.
I listen to Today FM. 2 great DJ's in Ian Dempsey and Ray D'arcy who play a great varity of music and artists followed by the very funny Ray Foley. The Wannabe yank Tony Fenton is on after him but he's rubbish, come half 4 though, you've the brilliant Matt Cooper on The Last Word and that's followed by Tom Dunne's pet sounds which is also brilliant.
One complaint about Today FM,as has been mentioned is their sports department and in particular Paul Collins.
ditto
Listened to Newstalk a lot just after it went national and before I moved to Canada. Still listen over the internet sometimes, but given that RTE1 have started podcasting loads of stuff I listen to quite a bit of them too.
Agree that Lyric is under-rated, but I still don't find myself listening to it that often. Also loved the funky music that RnaG would play around 10pm (think Paris café jazz tunes - can't remember what night of the week it was on). 2FM is utter cack, and Today FM is getting old (though I used to like it).
free 103.9 on the web. utterly fantastic, right now they have "Transmission art, free jazz, noise, dub, mash-ups, avant folk, turntablism, generative sound, field recordings, and other fringe styles." yep plenty of the top 40 shizz
