"Limerick 37 FC" is a superb name that retains the proud tradition of soccer in the city and county, the feedback from most people has been very positive in relation to not just the name but also the efforts being made by all groups to ensure that senior soccer is kept in Limerick. I am sure that most of the true soccer followers and clubs from all grades would be delighted to have a sucessful senior team in Limerick, as this will only enhance all soccer. L37FC have interviewed 8 people who all want the Job as manager. There is currently no squad but with the current climate regarding court proceedings we are limited in the effort we can put into signing players. In relation to your comments about not getting players in! you will be delighted to know that since the news broke about the team we have a steady list of players from all over Munster and the west coast who are making themselves available to the club (Most of which were playing EL last season. there will be no raiding of Junior players in Limerick and the point you make in relation to players is that if these players are good enough to play in the EL then they should aspire to do so, but if they are not then there is no issue. I also dissagree with you as regarding this being a bad year for Limerick soccer, with 4 teams left in the FAI, the LDL OT youths and Juniors unbeaten, the Schoolboys progressing in national cups, the possibility of a new vibrant Limerick 37! I think it will be a fantastic year for soccer in Limerick and I doubt very much that any team from Limerick will be hammered every week
the name is very american football sounding, limerick would of done surely.will the wages for players be roughly the same?

Look we´ve had Limerick AFC, Limerick United, Limerick City and Limerick FC and as we couldnt use these names again we had to come up with something else. Now hoops where are all your POSITIVE suggestions? Im not sure any manager would want heff after his "performances" last season, and although a fan of both Tommy and Robbie two players dont make a team/club.

    Hi Hoops

I think we will have to agree to disagree, the players that L37FC will sign will be top class and there are about 25 top class players who are not currently signed with clubs in the first division. when one looks at the players registered last season and the registrations to date this year it is wide open yet for lots of players.

By the way I don't own the club but I am the spokesperson, and I am very proud of Limerick soccer and really want to see strong representation at all levels. The LDSL and the LDL are strong so why not have every other grade just as strong?

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there only one American football team with numbers in the name, the 49ers. There's numerous football teams with numbers as part of their name.

Its the only one i can think of. something got to do with the gold rush to California around 1849 i believe ( open to correction ) Its not like we're called the Limerick Lions or tigers! If you dont like the name, then i suggest you dont get that tattoo done!

Well, I hate the name..it sounds poncy to me. However, I sincerely hope I'm shouting it out loud at the end of March....you all seem to think that it's a done deal and that the application has been accepted. I hope all the high hopes aren't dashed.

Why not? We still use the Waterford FC prefix on our business letters and lotto tickets, unless the previous Limericks are entirely different entities. L37, LFC, LAFC, LUFC, LCFC etc. you are almost as bad as the Corkies.

I wanted 1937 Limerick as the name, but Limerick 37 has market value in trying to attract new fans to the club I think

Usually trade marks (eg. club name and crest) cost a lot of money, if you want to buy one from somebody else. It's much more economical to simply come up with a new name.

Anyway, with a new name and crest you can ditch much of the baggage of the past -- barriers that existed for whatever reason (prejudicial or deserved) can be swept to one side.
And I think the idea behind the name Limerick37 is to try to associate the new club with the glories (whether real or imagined) from the past, and consign the business/management troubles of the recent past to the rubbish bin of history! ( or something like that - wow! what a load of highfaluttin ...)

I can only presume that 'Limerick' would equate to 'Limerick FC' in the context of a football club. I'm sure some clever legal whizz could argue that. So I'm sure Soccer Limerick had such a possibility in mind and decided to steer well clear of this kind of trouble. (The likes of the current court proceedings are trouble enough!)

I can't wait until this court case is sorted out and we know whether or not Limerick 37 get a license and the season begins. All this talk about the name is getting annoying. Let's hope we're talking football pretty soon.
