Bryan makes it Major

Congratulations to Castledermot native and former Castle Villa and Kildare County player Bryan Byrne, who has hit the big time in the USA. Bryan who signed for County under Dermot Keely in the 2002/03 season was awarded a sports scholarship to the University of Santa Barbara, California following his short stint at County.

Byrne made a big impression in the College soccer scene in UCSB and only last season played a key role at midfield in Santa Barbara’s win in the 2006 NCAA National Championship, when he co-captained the side.

On Friday it was announced that he had been drafted in by New England Revolution a side managed by Steve Nicholl in the Major League. In all Bryan Played 77 times for his College, scoring eleven goals.
