why are so many people having a go at him for the amount of money he's getting....jesus lads im sure ye'd take it in his position aswell! if ye were offered to move from one job to another and the new job had a significant increase in wages im sure 90% of people would take the new job....in many ways thats what its like in my opinion! fare play to him....i have upmost respect for david beckham....he has always been my favourite player many lesser players would be gone by now and would have been gone after the summer of 1998 but he didnt let anything get to him and he should be respected for that also!

31, well 32 when he gets there, is a perfect age for him to go. It won't be as tough and he'll have plenty to give on the footballing side of things.

A great player. Brilliant crosser, passer and dead ball player. It's the perfect move for him. Loadsa money. Away from the British tabloids. He'll also get to be nearer to his academy thigny in LA.

    Best of luck to him.

If he is free at the end of June, why not report to LA and take full advantage of his celebrity as fast as he can? If it's about needing the time to move, I'm guessing he should have plenty of free time seeing as how Capello has announced DB won't see any playing time till the end of his contract. He will still be obligated to show up at the games I assume but the effort he needs to put into Madrid has been reduced effectively to zero.

I think he will probably end up coming sooner after Capello's remarks. Maybe the original intention of him starting in August is because MLS shuts down for about 10 days during July for the all-star break and it would have been a bit start-stop-start. But I think that MLS would want the hype of him being in the all-star game anyway.

the hilarious thing is he thinks he can get back into the England team if he plays well for Galaxy! Somehow cant see McLaren trekking to LA to catch a game. nothing more than a hype move, although a talented player, shocking waste of money. BUt at least he’ll get to play against Ronnie O”Brien....

It mightnt be illegal but its very unethical ,.I cant think of any other player that didnt get their game after they annouced they would be leaving the club on a bosman.

The reason he is not gettting his game is because he does not fit in to the way that Capello wants Madrid to play. That is the coaches decision. I think Capello has won a title at every club he has gone to. I woudl trust Capellos footballing decision on this. He is right to do what he is doing. The reason that Beckham is leaving for La Galaxy is due to the fact that Capello wants him out of the club. Capello is a footballing man, Beckham is a celebrity. There is a difference. For the last 3 yearss Real Madrid has become more celebrity and no football and as a result they have not won anything. Capellow if given the chance will change that. His record speaks for itself.

Would anyone agree that Capello has frozen him out because he does not believe that a player who has just signed a $1millon a week contract for a new club next season will give 100% and put his body on the line for the remaining 6 months of his existing contract. Despite Beckhams lip service about his commitment to Real, this must be the ideal scenario for him. A serious injury between now and august would be a major league disaster!!
you are only a loser when you stop trying. Playing sport does not build character, it reveals it.

IMO beckham always gives 100% reagardless so we shouldn't really question his commitment if he played again this season! he loves football! i think it is very harsh on capello's behalf! capello said he hasn't talked to him since it was announced....a bit childish i think! he should do his job and manage the side instead of not talking to players beacuse there leaving the club...big baby! he also said that beckham signed the contract with galaxy without telling madrid...is that legal?

Does the season over there not start in April? madrid could pay off, say, half his remaining contract now and let him leave so his tan will be in place for the opening game? either that or he will be consigned to teaching the youngsters kicking technique in madrid for the next few months

Beckham refused a two year contract at Real Madrid to join LA Galaxy.

If he doesn't join till August, he may have to wait until 2008, given that they will be in separate conferences. The MLS schedule isn't being released for a few weeks I think. It's possbile LA will have faced Toronto by then.

Of course it is. He is in the final 6 months of his contract so he is perfectly entitled to sign for whoever he wants. It is a matter for the player of whether he informs his club or not but I would have thought it is common decency to keep them informed of developments.

IMO this deal has been going on behind the scenes for months. All of Beckhams contracts have been notoriously difficult to negotiate due to all the image rights issues. I don't believe for a second that this was signed, sealed and delivered in the space of a few days.

We don't know the details of the contract though. For all we know it could have been lip service from Madrid to keep his revenue coming in and they could have offered him £30k p/w instead of his 100k salary. After all, he wasn't considered a major player now for the first team.

Yes but Capello did not want that to be offered. He wanted him out of the club.

    .
Agreed and it was announced on the same day as the MLS 2007 roster so it was all arranged and the timing was perfect for them. I am with Capello all th eway on this and he is getting rid of Ronaldo also. He is going to turn that Madrid team into a proper footballing team just like he has done with every club he has been at. One of the best managers in the last 20 years in World Football.

He is 31 and the money had not been divulged at time of posting . But jump all over the post why don't you.

Now the other LA players are supposedly a bit miffed:
