Im unconvinced by Doyle to be honest, dont doubt his work rate but his goal return, particularly for us, isnt great. Off the top of my head he just scored the one goal in the last campaign?

I take it the consenus is, that if Wolves get relegated this year that ye would be confident a regular premiership club would snap him up. Surely the likes of Blackburn, Bolton, Fulham etc would do very well with someone like Doyle.

Isn't the NOTW the paper who reported Doyle to Chelsea and Manchester United a few years back? I don't know why they pick Doyle for all these rumours because he's just a random Premiership player really.

Cant remember where exactly I heard it but I think there was some truth that Chelsea were looking at him. Think it might have been some ex Chelsea backroom staff on one of the football shows

Maybe because the best managers in the game are capable of spotting talented players who are capable of rising to the level they are surrounded by? What a crazy notion

His goal return wasn't great in the WC campaign but there were a couple of reasons why. One was he had injuries and was lacking match practise, which was one of the reasons he was taken off by Trap in a few games. In those games he didn't look like scoring and it was only right for the manager to change things around.
Second reason is playing alongside Robbie Keane who hardly ever sets anyone else up at international level, is a bit of a glory seeker and tends to let Doyle do all the dirty work of taking on big centre halves or going out the wing to retrieve the ball, while Keane sits in or around the box waiting for a sitter.
When he hasn't been injured, Doyle has probably been Wolves best player this season, by a good distance.

First reason you give above is absolutely the reason that Doyle didn't get too many goals this campaign. The second reason is complete nonsense.

Incredible that someone could actually watch Ireland play and believe the above!

My only critisism for years of Robbie was that he was doing too much work outside the box and not staying up top enough to get into more goalscoring positions. Cant believe anyone is saying that he hangs around inside the box waiting for tap ins

You mustn't watch the same Robbie Keane that I do when playing for Ireland. He works as hard if not harder than Doyle closing down players. Then he gets blame for being in the right position to score goals Robbie just can't win with some people.

I see Doyler was subbed again yesterday by Mick. Didn't see the game so not sure what that was about.

I thought he was pretty good last night but it was late in the game when he was taken off when Wolves were 2-0 down. McCarthy wanted Iwelumo (sp) and Blake to long ball it up to them.

I was amazed McCarthy took Doyle off the other night. He was by far the main threat to Liverpool.

Think he took Doyle off against Liverpool as he knew that he was playing the full game against Man City and then last night as with Iwelumo and SEB he probably thought their more experienced partnership might nick us a goal if we were lumping it up to the big man.

I absolutely love Doyler, although do have a slight concern about his stamina as he appears to run himself into the ground in some games.

Also want him to forge his strike partnership with SEB ASAP. It's not quite intuitive at the moment. I know some people argue that his partnership with Robbie is not quite interlinking and to be fair Coppell used to rotate him with Kitson, Lita and Long a lot, so it might just be that he doesn't work as old-fashioned two up top striker, as he does a hell of a lot of running into the corners and if anything brings midfielders into the game more which may well be why he has always played with goalscoring midfielders such as Kitson, Harper, Whelan, Milijas etc as he is creating the holes by dragging defenders all over the place. To be fair the best I have seen him play is with Keogh up front as a partnership as the two were very fluid and were difficult to track a lot like Bellamy and Tevez were last night for Man City.

Another point is that Doyle missed a lot of preseason in the summer with injury and it may have an effect on his stamina.

Doyle is unfortunately lacking the one thing all top clubs want in their strikers. Pace. The guy is a great finisher, a great grafter, good in the air and quite tricky but he is just a little too slow against the better defences in the EPL. As for the stuff about Keane being lazy and selfish.. really? He works his ******** off for every team he plays for, probably his biggest attribute now!
    Help something bit me!!!
