Doyle could get the nod for lone striker role against Southampton on Friday as Chamakh is ruled out.

    Video of Doyle's goal

    http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/spor...e-back-8408711

Doyle expected back at Wolves. Jackett says Palace might be taking a look at him and considering extending his deal but I can't see it. If he couldn't get any game time during the Christmas period, I can't see him getting game time when Chamakh comes back. It's strange that he wasn't at least called off the bench a couple of times. Chamakh/Gayle/Zaha/Campbell have been struggling to score goals and bringing on Doyle wouldn't represent much of a risk if they don't want to concede. He's a similar player to Chamakh and can defend from the front.

In fairness to him he was back with Wolves between the 2nd and 20th of December with a groin injury and wasn't fully fit when he came back. But it's been a fairly disappointing loan spell overall. A lot of his future depends on whether or not he gets in the squad for this evenings game.

Edit: He's not in the squad this evening.

One thing the 31-year-old has ruled out is a move away from England. His wife is expecting next month and Doyle would only consider joining a club within driving distance of his British midlands home.

“Unless it’s commutable distance from my house, I won’t be going anywhere — my wife is due so I’ll be hanging around there.”

Good thing he has got his priorities straight anyways. His place in the national team is hanging by a thread, his stock in England has never been lower and he is being very picky about where he wants to take his next career progression.

“That’s the way the cookie crumbles, I guess, and although it sounds slightly odd, I probably needed more people to get injured to get a look in. I can’t say I played **** because I didn’t play — there just wasn’t an opportunity for me to show them what I can do.”

“That didn’t help,” Doyle said. “It put me out for four weeks, I got back at Christmas and even though we had so many games, I wasn’t getting a chance. And I think it was obvious then that things weren’t going to work out here.”

I don't know why they signed him if they had no intention of playing him. There were plenty of times when he could have been sprung off the bench. He looked good in half hour against Burnley and had a sharp cameo against Everton. Then nothing. Chamakh was out, other strikers were playing poorly, they were struggling for goals, their play in the opposition half was discombobulated. He was left on the bench. They had nothing to lose by bringing on an experienced PL campaigner who is/was well suited to their needs as a rotation player.

His wife is pregnant. It's probably worth remembering Doyle is a human being first. And a footballer second.

That's his choice and may he be happy with it and find a club in his commuting neighbourhood but I'd have thought that usually the professional is a footballer first and family follows, unless there are demanding situations like Walters has had.
Then again, he might be an early riser, have a fast comfortable car and likes driving.

I'd say your wife's continued health while preparing to give birth to your child is a pretty good reason for sticking around. It's not like he can't bear to tear himself away from the black country nightclub scene.

Is there a health issue? is there a health issue that requires him sticking around to be at the ready? the wife doesn't have to go out and work does she? Kev can hire as many pregnancy support counsellors as necessary, she could move house to be with Kevin while he earns another million quid, his last million. By some miracle, millions of women manage this pregnancy thing without their husbands/partner hovering over their every waking moment.
Married footballers do it all the time, put emphasis on their career and the rest follows, until that time in their lives when maybe they have enough security and football career ambition do not matter that much It's Kevin's choice if he choses to (sorta) retire, to look for a contract with teams in his locality and good luck to him.
I hear Leo Messi doesnt want to move his kid out of his kindergarten for emotional security reasons and therefore he won't be transferring away from Barca

I don't know if there's a health issue and I wasn't implying anything of the sort, but she's having a baby not getting her wisdom teeth out. Obviously, he doesn't have to be around constantly to ensure she's OK and lots of people by necessity have to be away from their partners in the late stages of pregnancy, but considering he's dragged her around England to support his football career it's hardly a major sacrifice for him to be close to her for a huge month in both of their lives. Just because he's a talented footballer doesn't mean he should chase a couple of extra international caps to the detriment of his family life. If anything, it shows he's a bit more of a rounded individual than many footballers.

I just wonder if Doyle was playing great stuff and linked with a move further afield (to a bigger club) would it be a different story? His career is fizzling out and it seems to me like he's kind of accepted that.

Linked with a move to Colorado Rapids on a 3 year deal and a wage cut from his current 40k earnings. A lot must hinge on his wages- The Sun mention a wage less than 10k.

Presumably the concept of moving his family (and pregnant wife) to America must be weighed up, along with the effect on his international career. I think it's reasonable to say that Robbie Keane is the exception, as opposed to the rule, as far as how MON would interpret the standard of the MLS when making his selections.

Good that this .... 'bit more of a rounded individual'... is probably now expanding his vision and thinking of the future security of his family as well as the challenge and adventure, and park the short term escapist, corny excuse of wanting to be around his pregnant partner. There's nothing like an exciting challenge and adventure to bring a family closer, good that rounded Kevin might be thinking along these lines. He's a footballer first and foremost for the next couple of years. He'll have to deal with his issues as a footballer, get back in favour as a first team player and he still will have most of the day to mope around his house,"resting" and being with his family.
I would be disappointed if he accepted his football career had fizzled out along with perceptions that it had fizzled out into ignomy, i.e. hanging round the back shed of a beleaguered club to pick up his inflated cheque. That's not much of a legacy for him to pass on.

It's perplexing because I don't think he's either lazy or a disruptive influence among a group. Jackett's treatment of him appears to be rather shoddy, as far as I can see.

Well maybe he wants to be there for his wife and child. Maybe he actually loves his wife and wants to be there to support her.

    Just a thought.

His contract expires at the end of the season according to wiki. Kind of makes sense that he'd cash in on his final run of 40k's a week before the inevitable slash.
