    Angry LM in tonights echo

    Back page of tonight's Echo.
    By NOEL SPILLANE
CORK City chairman Brian Lennox will move this week to quash rumours team mnager Liam Murphy is aout to lose his job.

The City boss had to put up with a “Murphy Out” banner at Belfield Park last night as Cork slipped to a one-goal defeat at the hands of UCD and are still looking for only their second away win of the season.
“I noticed a minority of the fans in the ground last night, but as team manager I have to learn to live with that,” said Murphy.
To be honest with you, I don’t think it’s the supporters, it’s other people, other forces at work here in some sections of the media,” he added.
“I have to live with that and it’s part and parcel of the job. I think it goes with the territory. We had a bit of stick at the start of the season before a ball was even kicked and the people who gave us that did not even come to see us play.

“It’s all media hype, trying to boost sales, nothing more, nothing less. I mean we had a blistering start to the season, we planned our season very well, we have been joint second for ages in the league but some people have decided to have a go.
It’s the manager they are having a go at and if they want to that’s fine by me. I am in the game a long time but I think this is unjustified, uncalled for and not very constructive.
Basically I am only interested in my players, no one else and that’s that.”
Murphy has come under some pressure after Cork made an FAI Cup exit to Derry in the semi-finals and effectively slipped out of the Championship race with just one away win all season.
    *************************************************

So it's not the Fans, its the media.
Yes Liam, it's true, all us fans love you and think you are great
    It's only a minority
That would be the minority that bother to travel to away games, Liam ?
The criticism is "unjustified, uncalled for and not very constructive"
    Exactly like your management, eh?

As far as Liam is concerned, he is doing fine, and as he says on the inside page all City "need is a change of luck and......some moral courage"

Here's a suggestion Liam, gather up some of that moral courage and ensure we get that change of luck, by facilitating a change of management.

If, as Spillane says, Lennox does come out and support LM, I think he will be showing that his oft stated ambitions for the club is a lot of talk.

Well James, I think the ball is in Lennox's court, so to speak.
If he is prepared to accept this kind of inane bullsh*t from Murphy, along with all the pathetic after match comments like "all we need is luck" and also accept what is happening on the field, than, I'm sorry to say that Lennox will be just a spoofer too.
I really don't feel he is, but he needs to address this matter quickly and decisively. The coming fans forum will tell a lot.

In the inside of tonights Echo: "As despertion set in for a small hardy band of Cork City fans sitting in the main stand they started up a rather faint chant of 'Dave Barry, Dave Barry...'
When the teams re-emerged emerged for the second half those same minority of City fans unfurled a banner proclaiming 'Murphy Out' in black letters on a white background"

Is Noel Spillane really so stupid that he thinks its only a minority of fans who want Murphy Out, for fcuk sake even his colleagues in the Echo have been critising him all week.

I was one of the other people holding the banner and what was very telling is that not one of the City fans present objected. Liam, we can think for ourselves, it is not the media. It's us the fans, we have wanted you out long before the media ever hinted that you are a crap manager.
The tide has turned Liam, it is time to go. Don't be stupid Brian, get him out of our club asap.

btw, I'm pretty sure there wasn't any Dave Barry chant. Is Spillane telling porkies?!

On the Big Red bench, Spillane said that there were about 50 or 60 City fans at the game, and only a handful were against Murphy. He also repeated the " Dave Barry" chant story.
I cannot understand the man at all. He says City season is heading for disaster and we not end up in Europe even, yet apperently this has nothing to do with LM.
He said City fans have short memories because we seem to forget that Murphy "got us into Europe a few seasons ago".
    Well, thats that isn't it?
LM to be manager of Cork City forever, because he once got us into Europe.
They played the after match interview with Murphy, and to be honest it would not be out of place in a Monty Python show.
What do bizarre statements like "it was not a typical league of Ireland game" and "my players are honest, too honest even" mean?
He said "if a player is not honest with me, they I get rid of them"
repeated that it's the media who are against him and also said"that the people who were against him at the start of the season did not even see the team play".

    Over to you, Brian........

    Dave Barry???

I wasn't at Belfield but I have been told by someone who was that Dave Barry's name was not chanted. I think Spillane is try to make the Murphy out people look ridiculus.

You have to remember that Spillane is "one of the boys". He gets his FREE trip to Latvia and Sweden for a bit of back slapping in the Echo.

I think Murphy may be using the media excuse beacuse he suggesting maybe the banner only arrived after the recent articles in the Echo?

I was at the game & heard no Dave Barry chant.

Just because people di not not chant Murphy Out does not mean they opposed the banner i.e. silent protest.

I saw no strange looks from any city supporters at the game & most were smiling when the banner displayed.

Lennox will back Murphy til the day he is removes/sacks him. I wouldn't expect anything else from a Chairman.

we planned our season very well
He's lost all those away games on purpose so!

I have to say I didn't see the banner but the 4-5-1 flag was cool.

hhmmmm, one article of criticism in the Echo, and suddenly there is a media witch hunt.

Well, in fairness, there´s hardly been a word of criticism before in the Echo, so it must seem that way

Dead man walking is right- don´t delay the inevitable Liam, off with ya!
