It's end of season and seeing the new names included is exciting, but I just think it's a lost opportunity to have a look at other CMF options, most notably Whelan, but also Garvan and Gibson, and Nick Colgan's inclusion astounds me.

If he wants to take a look at Folan up close then fair enough but I'd have far preferred to see Leon Best, and likewise if he thinks that Potter is the new CMF face he most wants to see than that's his call. He's right to bring Potter, but he could have brought Whelan too.

I read that the Quinns have family commitments so are unavailable.

Dunne is out of the squad because he's getting married, and he's played every minute of every game this season for Man City.

On Off The Ball on NewsTalk last night they announced they had contacted Toronto FC about speaking to Ronnie O'Brien, but he would only speak to them if the Irish team was not part of the interview. Which clearly was not going to happen....

Does Stan just sit at home and watch Match of the Day to assess the players?

Apparently Gibson is going to be involved in play off matches in Belgium that clash with our games. Garvan and especially Whelan should have been included.

That's fair enough, I was wondering if that may have been the case.

I'm looking forward to the games. Good chance for the young lads to make an impression. I think Folan could surprise one or two.

I think so! Unless he thinks that Sunderland and Birmingham will move location after being promoted thus making them easier to get to.

Here have a look at what our small minded cousins to the far North are saying about our trip to the USA (including EalingGreen):

It always brings a smile to my face reading their comments and then they wonder why Gibson, Kane etc don't want to play for them.

F#ck all. I wasted 60 seconds of my life reading it.
I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.

In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.

I'm not allowed on that site, IT security settings at work.

    Care to summarise?

EalingGreen refers to the thread as Stan's comedy trip to the US and his cronies spend the entire time moaning about the whole X-Files conspiracy of the FAI 'defectors' Kane, O'Connor and Gibson and that they probably aren't in the squad because the FAI are still unsure about their elligibility and are afraid to include them (in preference to the more realistic reason that Kane and O'Connor are nowhere near ready for the senior squad yet and Gibson is tied up in Belgium). That and the usual beggars insults being thrown about though admittedly EalingGreen doesn't use this phrase.

Why do they care is all I want to know?

i understand that NI fans might be worried they could lose some players who perhaps may qualify for them. some serious clowns on that site though , every time i think i might thaw in my attitudes to the NI team this kind of thing sends me right back to wanting them to lose every game they play.

Tony Kane, on loan from Blackburn to Brugge. He was born in Belfast, hence the grief about him.
Michael O'Connor at Crewe Alexandra, he switched allegiances from the North after playing for them at U-21 level
I believe Portsmouth's Marc Wilson is a similar case, born in Belfast, declared for the Republic
