Heard about soccer sisters?

The FAI are rolling off a programme this year called Soccer Sisters. They are looking for a club/school that has access to an Indoor facility to host the 10 week, 1 hour introduction to football course for 6-12 year old girls, and they all get an Ireland Shirt!

Anyone that is interested in coaching(paid position) or setting the programme up in your area, should contact any of the womens dev officers, carol.murphy, eithne.lydon, moyia.parke or eoin.killackey @fai.ie. They work in South Leinster, Munster, Connaught/Donegal and North Leinster respectively.

Sounds like a great way to get girls started!!!!

Yes.... and it's the beginning of trying to win the hearts and minds of young girls to the beautiful game. The GAA have had a huge head start however.

Whats the story with coaching. What kind of experience would you need do you think? Would you have to have trained in football before

For example personally I have no experience training football but will be a qualified teacher by then, have played football and have trained that age group in camogie as well as some summer camps.

I presume this is during the summer ya?

There are beginners coaching courses to enable someone like you to coach kids called Kick Start 1 and 2. You should apply to take part in those. That would let you do the Soccer sisters , but the FAI send coaches out to co-ordinate the programme. Contact the FAI and ask for a number for the relevant coach in your area.

And you ( when you qualify..best of luck in the exams by the way) as a primary teacher might also be interested in the FAI's Buntús Programme too. The Buntús programme is specifically aimed at producing teachers who can coach.

Thanks for the information. The Buntús one sounds very interesting, will try to find out more.

Soccer Sisters coaches are to be minimum of Kick Start 1 standard, but the Development Officer will decide on suitability. A suitable person would also have previous experience with Pepsi Camps.

All a club needs is an indoor venue to get the programme up and running, so spread the word!!
